The thermalright SI-97 is probably the best socket A heatsink. Get a good 92mm fan and you should be set. I don't think Speedfan supports your motherboard. So you probably need a Zalman Fanmate or other fan controller to slow down the fan.

If you look at the original prototypes from CES, you'll see that there actually was a pseudo CAG originally. Apparently testing showed no cooling improvement with it, so it was deleted in the production cases. I hope that's the case. My system uses the 3000b duct and a fanless XP-120 to cool my new...

You should get a Yate Loon. Yate Loon makes the Nexus . The orange Yate Loon (low speed) spins about 1350 rpm and the blue LED (medium speed) one spins about 1650 rpm. Both are almost as quiet as the Nexus at the same speed. Tekgems currently has them in stock. Cutting the corners of the Nexus or or...

Update. Since I wanted to change my Dad's case, I conviced my brother to give him his and get the 3000B if I covered some of the cost. I also told him it would cool better and the heatsink could run fanless. http://www.darkdistrict.com/computer/thumbnails/DSC01804.jpg http://www.darkdistrict.com/com...

That's really scary. My P4 3.06 Northwood running at 3.2 Ghz runs at 50 degrees C passive with a 7000Cu. The pwm fan control I set up turns the fan off at 50 degrees and it sits at 50 degrees most of the time. Something was horribly wrong if your machine generating less heat runs at that same tempe...

The Zalman and Cooler Master Northbridge heatsinks use mounting holes not compatible with your Intel board. You'd have to use an epoxy (permanent glue), try to get it on there with thermal tape, try to get clip(s) from another motherboard, or make your own clip . Thermalright and Swiftech have North...

3700AMB & P4 2.8 Stock Silencing Project
My brother was impressed with the quietness of my Dad's computer I recently built him. I told him I could do the same thing to his system, although it would be a lot different since my Dad had a Duron 1.1 and he had a Pentium 2.8. So I made it a project to quiet his computer as well. His original sy...

Great job steeef. Check out fredars rig to see how he routed his cables on his 3000-B. If the pics don't show, try copy and pasting the img url and refreshing the page. You might also wanna put some uchannel / c-strip on your fan holes.

Great job Ed. Can the same setup run on the 3000-B case? If so, how much would you think temps would change? Since the 3000-B is about 2" taller, the exhaust fan, power supply, XP-120, and graphics card (or the VM-101 you used in your other rig ) would no longer be bunched up that closely anymore. I...

If you plan on getting a Samsung, make sure it has the Nidec motor. Which is much quieter than the JVC.

Looks pretty good so far. For your AthlonXP, I'd get the Thermalright SI-97. And put a good 92mm fan on it. I have this setup and works great. I beleive you can run your 6600 passively. Check Out Edward Ng's system . Gets some uChannel / C-Strip to line your fan hole. Not sure if you know the thread...

http://www.darkdistrict.com/z1-drive.jpg http://www.darkdistrict.com/z2-drive.jpg I was browsing around Home Depot for supplies I can use to mod my computer. http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/3pinto4pinad1.html SVC sells a connector that will let you monitor rpm's. Your motherboard model will matter if you really undervolt your fans. My Abit AN7 would not let me go under a certain CPU RPM without setting off an alarm. So this connector was pretty much...
