What are you in school for? Can you find a summer internship that deals with your schooling? I know Intel will hire students for the summer if you are pursuing anything remotely close to technology. Hi Deheinx, I'm going to be entering third year at U of Toronto taking Chemical Engineering. Not ver...

The tiny video card fan is pretty noisy. You may want to look into grabbing a VGA silencer or a Zalman heatpipe.

Also, that 16X LiteON drive is *reaaaaaaaaaaly* noisy when it spins up. The LG GDR-8162B is a pretty decent drive, and generally quieter than the LiteON.

Heheh lucky you :) I've been searching for a job for two months now.. student jobs are a tough one to get. Recently been edged out of two possible job opportunities. Even in that case, I need to keep that money for tuition! Maybe a decent set of noise cancelling headphones would work. I haven'...

How to silence parents?

My PC is reasonably quiet now. Loudest part being the whine coming from the PSU. It's great when I'm up late, or home before everyone else. However... When my parents come home from work (living at home for the summer term), my Mother talks on the phone almost 80% of the time. When my Dad has the da...

Rusty : Okay, fair enough. My temperature obession is somewhat in check now. My CPU hits 60 C under load, and I'm not too freaked out. But when my ENTIRE video card is burning hot to the touch, that can't be "a good thing(TM)". High speed mode creates too much noise for my taste. The silent mode se...

VGA Silencer + R9800P@XT = HOT

Hi there Situation: VGA Silencer + R9800XT = ? First off, let's get the video card out of the way. I have a BBA Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB which is identical to the 9800 XT in every respect, except that it has a different stock HSF, and is clocked lower to 380/340, core/memory. I flashed it to a full XT...

The surface roughness on the rev 3 is mirror like, whereas the rev 1 (and presumably rev 2) is still rough. Rev 3 also has a separate PCI slot bracket for the switch/exhaust hole, so they don't need to accomodate for various video card output configurations. http://www.ocfaq.com/reviews/ArcticCoolin...

You might want to mute your sound card's line-in. I'm using an AIW9800P, and lots of noise leaks to my Audigy 2 ZS. Squealing goes away when I mute that line.

My Noisetaker hates any 9800 Pro (AIW or Regular flavours). Makes an annoying whine. I'd like to hear what you have planned to silence it!

You should have ordered something else to bump it over the $200 mark, where they give you free shipping!

Now let's wait and see if TD actually sends the rebate.

Sweet! That was the main thing that was driving me towards the A7N8X. Thanks for the info.

Oh, to keep on topic, I recommend the superglue method aswell.

Use a toothpick to make *tiny* drops on the corners. My first attempt resulted in a mess of superglue and thermal paste when trying to apply the glue directly from the bottle. :)

Apparently the SB on nForce2 boards can get pretty hot, causing the onboard audio to generate lots of static. People have had success eliminating the static by cooling the SB. Cooling the SB isn't always useless :)

Update!!! I received a Radeon 8500 that was supposed to go into my old machine.. Various driver conflicts later, and I ended up testing it in my main rig with the Noisetaker. The Radeon 9800 and its AIW brother seems to be the culprit. The whine is still present with the 8500 installed, however, it ...

Does your Noistaker whine?

Hi I'm on a mission to find out what motherboards/components make the Enermax Noisetaker (and possibly Coolergiants) whine. For me, my IC7 makes the PSU whine. I have been unsuccessful trying to deduce which coil is the culprit. Let's see what hardware it doesn't like :) Note: I'm making the assumpt...

Funny,

I always thought that ducting the Zalman 7000A to an exhaust would have been an awesome idea. I really liked the Alpha/elbow duct mod idea. Very tempted to buy a Lanboy just to try it. :o
