I guess they figured the average person is so stupid (and rightfully so) that they needn't bother too much.

Re: Underclocking ATI for dual-screen UVD
The best way would be to use RBE to export and edit your BIOS with the desired clock speeds and then flash it.
HD 6900 Series have dual BIOS so it's really fool proof.

Considering Samsung sold its HDD division to Seagate, I don't think that bodes well for us.tawd1992 wrote:I just bought a WD10EARS for my htpc & it doesn't support AAM. What is Western Digital thinking?
I hope Samsung doesn't do away with AAM also.

The idle temperatures were high because I have two monitors so the card runs at higher clocks when idle (450/1350 instead of 150/250) The load temperatures were roughly on par with several reviews. P.S.: I should also add that my 640GB HDD (installed on the lowest HDD tray) was being heated up by th...

OK, so I've replaced the stock cooler with my trusty ol' Gelid Icy Vision rev. 2. I have to say I was impressed, I'll just let the numbers speak: * PCS+ VORTEX II IDLE: DISP IO - 52º C MEM IO - 58º C SHADER - 58º C BATTLEFIELD 3: DISP IO - 70/72º C MEM IO - 76/80º C SHADER - 76/80º C * GELID ICY VIS...

Re: Opinions on Powercolor HD 6950 Vortex II
I finally have this card and I can say it's not really that quiet. The fan at 20% (minimum) makes an annoying grinding/whirring? noise. At 22/23% it's quiet but not enough. Of course running two monitors makes the card HOT and LOUD as AMD stupidly insists on using high clocks for multiple monitors. ...

Can I just say... too little too late? Also, very expensive for what little improvement it brings.
I mean, the Define R3 is superior in every way AND costs less. Antec is losing its touch.

I can't manage to enable AAM on my new WD1002FAEX either. Have they gone completely mad removing it from all series of drives?? Looks that way. And WD support is useless. They take no responsibility and insist on me returning the drive to the store, even though they wouldn't accept it (working fine...

Re: Warning to all SPCR members: do not buy the WD10EALX
- It doesn't support AAM (WD must be mad) It depends on the date of manufacture, I described it here: http://forum.pclab.pl/topic/672826-mikroTEST-Western-Digital-WD10EALX-1TB/ (google translate required ;) ) So, older drives had AAM, newer ones don't? That's even worse . Bloody WD has gone mad.

No, the X model (6Gbps) simply does not support AAM. My 640GB Blue is perfectly quiet.ame wrote:Thats too badrpsgc wrote:I don't need opinions any more since I bought a WD10EALX (tip: stay away from it)......

Well, after using the HX650 for a few weeks now I can safely say that it is indeed [subjectively] louder than the HX520. Not by a large margin mind you, but still louder.

Re: GELID Icy Vision Dual Fan VGA Cooler
I've replaced the fans with the new ones.
Old ones @ min speed: 1200rpm
New ones @ min speed: 1050~1100rpm (maybe I didn't seat them properly?)
The problem (noise) seems to be gone but I don't want to jinx it

+1 for Gelid. Great support, right up there with Crucial, Corsair and Logitech.
Maybe now I can finally enjoy my Sandy Bridge upgrade in peace and quiet

Re: GELID Icy Vision Dual Fan VGA Cooler
OK so I'm a little (a lot) annoyed. After about 9 months of quiet operation, one day my Icy Vision begun to irk me with this loud humming noise, it just got louder overall out of nowhere, period. Are the fans going bad? What else could've caused it? It's like the cooler is vibrating like hell and is...

Warning to all SPCR members: do not buy the WD10EALX
If you value silence (and your sane mind) do not buy the Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gbps (WD10EALX). - It doesn't support AAM (WD must be mad) - It emits an annoying and nerve-wreaking hum (and yes, it's suspended!) I assumed the WD10EALX was similar to the WD10EALS but I was wrong. Don't fall for the same mi...

Hitachi Feature Tool doesn't even detect it. So the logical conclusion is that the EALX version (6Gbps) doesn't support AAM!

WD10EALX and AAM?
Hi,
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I simply cannot enable/change AAM on my WD10EALX!
WinAAM --> doesn't detect HDD
HDDScan --> says it doesn't support AAM.
I would try Hitachi Feature Tool but somehow I can't boot into to my boot usb flash drive with this Asus board.

Re: Need feedback from Samsung F3 (HD103SJ) owners
Hi, I don't have any problem with these HDDs. Apart from using them on many builds, I recently got one for my own rig to replace a humming WD AAKS with great success. I use it in the P-150's tray in an acoustically contolled room and I have no problems with hum. It is my experience that hum has a l...
