well, have you tried it w/o the vm-101 inverted? Right side up and you could remove the need for that extra fan already.

I'm going to have to agree with them - the duct is a bad idea. If I were you and going for silence I would do what I did: I'm not sure what CPU you have, but you can either A) replace the Zalman 7000A's stock fan with a Nexus (I really don't know what size fan it takes but any of the Nexus's at 5 vo...

but i think that difference is achieved by having the seasonic psu directly above it increase the speed of it's fan from about 500 rpm to 900/1000 rpm during load. So yes, it is acceptable is what I'm getting at :D hopefully if I get my hands on a WD3200JB to replace the two hard drives i have now t...

It's probably just my airflow which is pretty weak. Next to it is a 120mm nexus at 5v exhausting and a nexus 120mm inside the seasonic psu above at 5v. and i have two hard drive enclosures blocking the front intake hole, except for about an inch and a half opening.

So, I presume I will now have to ensure that there is more than adequate airflow entering from the front of the case? At the moment I don't have a front fan, but I think with the Ninja it's going to be a must. My theories correct? Not necessarily. I wouldn't put a fan up front for intake because, i...

mmm i wouldnt go 1.65 volts with a fanless SI-97. At 1.35v and a fan at 5volts on top of it i'm idling at 51C right now in a cold room. I'll run a quick test right now and see what i idle at when it's at 1.65 volts, and fan at 5v. EDIT: ok just jacked it up to 1.65 volts. Everything else is stock, 1...

I've noticed that they change slower in Speedfan than in the nVidia view. Just takes a little experimenting to find a good value.

Perhaps it is your video card, and you just need to adjust Speefan's value to nVidia's. That's what I had to do for my 6800. Yup, after checking, LM99 is my 6800. My LM99 Temperature 1 offset is 0 and Temperature 2 is 9 (under "advanced" then select the chip). You might have to offset yours to a dif...

My socket A mobo undervolts fine, at 166x11 at 1.35volts. I have an SI-97 on top of it ("it" being a 2400+ mobile Barton 35w) and a Nexus 92mm at 5v on that. I idle anywhere from 47-50C (cold room - room temp room) and load around 55C (not a huge difference b/c of the Seasonsic PSU above it that ram...

If you don't want to mod your PSU, try and find a way to get only cool air to the PSU. This should keep the fan from ramping up, and should idle at a lower RPM. I don't know your system and what you can do, you would probably have to ghetto-duct to the PSU.

I modded my Seasonic S12-330 with the Nexus 120mm. I plugged the fan into my motherboard and have Speedfan run it at 1%, which is probably somewhere around 5 volts. During heavy CPU usage, or when my component's temperature increases out of the "safe range" I set up in Speedfan, Speedfan will automa...

Halloran - Did you end up trying the fan swap? I'm tossing up between a VF700 + ZM80D on a 7800GTX... How quiet are the VF700's in a near silent pc? I have the ZM80D on the 6800NU. I'm going recommend you get the VF700 so you have some air movement. The ZM80D does a great job cooling the 6800, but ...

Re: Use better earphones

People should really use isolating earphones like the Etymotics, Shure, or Westone ones. Sure, the higher-end ones cost as much as the ipod itself, but they all block outside noise, allowing you to hear the music that much better and at lower volumes. I agree, my Shure E2C's let me listen listen to...

My motherboard emits a high frequency noise, but only at idle. Go figure. I've tried both a 9600pro and xfx 6800 and the noise is still there, so I know it's not my video cards. I know it's not the PSU, and I know it's not the HDD. I'm pretty sure that these instances of noise, at least in my case, ...

My Seasonic S12-330 works great, even after modding it with a Nexus 120mm fan to run at 1% through Speedfan (~ 500<700 rpm) and is dead silent in my case sitting on the carpet floor. The Samsung 930B is quiet, but not silent. It does emit a faint inverter sound. I can tell the difference between it being on and off, even when my computer is running, which is pretty quiet though. I can only tell this during the dead of night.
