it's not that difficult to do yourself. If you take the 'male' 4-wire molex that's going to the fan, you can release the pins using the inner ink tube from a regular bic pen. As the article shows, if you wire the red and black wires to the fan, it will give you 7 volts. If you wire the red and yello...

The thread I linked to regarding mobo hiss had some suggestions of coating the offending coils with electricians goop, which I'm a bit leery of trying.

You're correct, the noise seems to increase with CPU/Graphics activity.

I can accept an answer of "I can't confirm that yet..." but if the statement on techlounge was the release would happen in the first quarter of 2005... they should be able to confirm something. Q1 is already 60% complete. I deal with new product launches all the time, and I know how uppity customers...

Temps never go above 47, and the PSU only ramps up to around 1000rpm under full extended load. Do you know if the enermax noisetaker 370W also ramps up automatically when temps rise? Or do i ne...

When I go to Quicktime 6 and resize the window, while I am dragging the window the motherboard makes a hissing noise. I have this exact same problem with an Asus P4R800V-Deluxe mobo. I tried the paper tube method and it sounds as if its coming from the area between the CPU and I/O panel. It is pret...

Other option - see if you can exchange that Prescott for the 3.06 Northwood. It's marginally slower due to the 512kb cache and 533 FSB, but runs a whole lot cooler. There are still a few left in the market, snap one up before they're gone, if you want to stick with the socket 478

Depending on your location, I've read that 'open' cooling systems such as you describe may be illegal in some areas/states. It is hugely wasteful, unless you're pumping your own water from your own well. Why do you think they made low-flow toilets the law in some states, because most local water sup...

Enermax Noisetaker problem

Okay, my main system is down... I'm sitting here with less hair typing on my laptop in the dark. Long story short, I was cleaning tonight, moving my system around. Started by shutting the entire works down, hit the off switch on the back of the PSU, then unplugged everything. Set everything back up ...

good call on the cables-through-the-wall concept. I've thought about this in the past but I've been put off by the notion that you loose video quality over those VGA extension cables. How does that work for you?

Both switches are a standard "momentary on" switch, hooked up via 2 wires (each) to the proper header on the motherboard. Should be able to pick them up at any electronics supply store.

Can't speak to the PSU, but definitely look to Nexus for a 120mm fan replacement. you've got a similar setup to mine, just run the Zalman as low as the fanmate will take it, the 3.06 staus below 50 running at 100% in my 22 C ambient.

I'm a recent convert to Nexus - that fan at 5 volts is silent, and gives the HD's the little airflow that they need.

I've got 4 drives in my Sonata, (2 in raid) and they rarely get over 40 degrees C.

We haven't had a drop in the number of active users in 2-3 weeks, my guess would be the supply of most-efficient proteins is folding up. I'm still getting 600 pointers at home, but they seem to be running slower this week, like 5-6 days instead of 4 on one dedicated machine.

I had no issues with my LIS2 on an asus P4R800-V Delux mobo. It is not supported by MBM, so it has reduced functionality. For the USB connector, I took the 9 pin front panel conector to mobo connection and shifted it over so that only one USB port on the front is getting a connection. Then I connect...

Actually the hard drive cables aren't that hard to hide, their IDE cable comes off the mobo, and right in behind them. The power cables are routed right in behind the works too. I'll see if I can find a proper single-ended (round) ide cable to replace that fat one servicing the 2 CD drives currently.
