Euhm, did they just test CPU coolers in an open air setup? Kinda ruins the whole test, imo. Also a real short view on every single cooler. I understand the article would've been massive if they'd review every single cooler properly, but from the few that i read, i didn't get much needed info at all,...

Depends on the VGA card. Some have coil whine, some don't.
From what i gathered so much is that the 8800GT and 38x0 series has some whine and the 8600 not so much.
To be sure you might want to ask around about future cards before buying.

Depends on how much you like he case, imo. CPU fan: AMD default sink and fan is a dead give away that you haven't put much thought into your cooling as of yet. Designing an airflow path which is optimal for your setup is your first step, then get a CPU cooler which fits into that design. Then a good...

My 8800GT, when i ran it fanless still made some sound yes. Coil whine. The noise wasn't much of a problem though, it had to be totally silent not only in my room, but also my house and the street in proximity to my room for it to be really noticeable. A ticking clock would drown out the noise compl...

I have that a lot on my soon to be formatted laptop as well. Usually gets triggered by alt f4'ing an active program.

For me, they started shortly after installing newer Ati drivers, going back to ye olde ones didn't help.

TRUE doesn't have a fan though (non of the Thermalright HS seem to have one), the Ninja is being shipped with a Slipstream 800 these days. So unless you have a fan laying around, it is still the cheaper option.

SLI isn't worth the costs, the performance gain is negligible for normal systems. Tripple SLI would be the equivalent of throwing your money on a burning pile of shit. So basicly, the new Noctua's are ok, except when using filters?

I was considering using these, but they are rather pricy here, much more then the s-flex, nexus and slipstreams. If they are not noticably more silent, and on top of that won't handle filters better, then i see no reason to pick them.

While there is a difference between the 8800GT and the 3870, it is, imo, not noticable enough. It seems a lot of 8800GT's have coil whine, where as from the 3870 i've only heard this a few times.

I think that if AC take their design of the S1, cut it in half so it fits for HTPC use they would also have the dominant place in VGA cooling there.

It's a simple design, but as we've seen from both reviews, it works great.
