Re: Been a long time since I upgraded
Spring for a Phenom II X3 720 BE or X2 555 BE. Same 95W TDP yet 6MB of L3 cache to help with photo editing and CAD work. Possibility exists to unlock that extra core too  . If you get a board with onboard GFX, you can always add your old video card in the PCIe slot if you don't like the perfor...

Re: Opinions on Antec DF-85?
The DF-85 is ugly. I like the 1200 better! From a silence perspective, at least you can suspend 12 drives in the 5.25" bays, rather than hard mounting them in the DF-85. Still, neither makes for a decent "silent" computing case, and are expensive.

I use a WD Blue (500GB), middle of the road performance, fairly quiet, and inexpensive per gigabyte.Morten74 wrote:As the PC is used for gaming - mostly FPS - the drive should not be slow, though SSD is not needed.

Re: Alternative airflow in SOLO case?
Alternative? How about flipping it over ? Then you can duct the PSU and CPU individually to the front, and separate the graphics card region. Generally though I think reversing the front to back flow in the Solo wouldn't work too well because its front end is quite restricted. Maybe it would w...

Good design, as others have mentioned it could use some cable management holes and front facing I/O ports. Appears to be the size and format of an Antec 300, decent, as it isn't too big (i.e. P183...). I don't like doors however. :(. I wonder how a hot graphics card/cpu setup would fair with one 120...

Re: My Solo build (Q9450, X-400, AC S1)
The actual fan speed (reported by Everest) is: Noctua S12 (~890rpm), Scythe SFLEX-E (~620rpm). Noctua S12 is a weird fan, if I open the side panel, its speed falls down to ~840rpm. If I reduce CPU fan's speed, it further increases. I don't know why Its an air restriction. See this thread . For damp...

You mean just cutting a piece of cardboard and using tape or something to separate the CPU and the power supply so the power supply is not pulling in hot air from the CPU? Yes, I did it in my SOLO. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1449/img0241m.jpg Yeah, most good cases today that have bottom mou...

And if you want you can do a 5.25" mod with the 3.5" cage, you had just one panel to move and you can suspend your drive in. I've done it. Have a look at my A300 mod, see sig. Just drill straight through those rivets and they pop loose. http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/2571/img0711p.jpg http://im...

Re: Is the Solo too small for my build? ( heat issues?)
Two thing's I'd watch out for in the Solo: The video card length and its fit against the hard drive bays. The heat from the CPU rising into the PSU causing it to ramp up (assuming your using a 120mm fan PSU). I still forsee you having heat dissipation problems with the Solo for a system with a mid/h...

I choose Medium ATX. i.e. a revised Solo, with a bottom mounted PSU, stronger front panel switches, all black, more hd bays, etc, etc, etc.

Re: mid-tower case w/ max optical drive bays?
CM Centurion.
Full tower: Antec 1200.
Or mod a 300 like mine
Maybe try an R3 with the trays removed to suspend 8 drives with stretch magic? (If the clearance allows).
I remember a thread around here about cases that can suspend many drives...

And indeed, your guess at my build was a good one (5850 and i7 with 8Gb RAM). I didn't guess . As a side question, considering the impeded airflow towards the graphics card in the Fractal that was mentioned, could I install a fan to cool it if need be? I guess yes, but how would I do it, where do I...

Does anyone here use or have any experience with the ANtec Solo case? I've got a ( slightly modded ) solo, and I can say its a great quiet case. As stated, it won't be suitable for high end high heat output components, such as an i7 + ati 58xx/ GTX 260 + video cards, and 4+ hard drives. Its got exc...

Re: newbie with new system questions
Welcome to SPCR! It has 6 fans. Two 120's in the front, one 120 in the back, one 120 on the side and two 140's on the top. +2, You don't need that many fans! Seems like you've already bought the case, as such, I'd block off the side and one top panel fan spots, and run the system with a top and rea...

Re: Antec 300 or Fractal Design Define R3 ?
I see a few people using the Antec 300 here on the forum, but they always seem heavily modded and I can surely say that I will not be switching things around inside the case, nor would I want to have to add more fans from the beginning. Its a tough decision, I know. The R3 seems to be the better ch...

I think 90C load is a bit high for a card with such a huge heatsink and two (effectively) 92mm fans.
Soft mount the rear case fan.
