To be honest, I'm not quite sure, my assumption is that a HD at spinup uses about 25 watts, and 30 disks then need about 750 watts, factor inn that its not 1000 watt on the 12V-line, and the rest of the system, it might be needed, I have tried to measure the power-draw with 12 disks, the machine th...

I'm also looking forward to the 1000-watt-test hinted at in the article, could be a useful PSU for my fileserver. Your fileserver needs 1000W?! To be honest, I'm not quite sure, my assumption is that a HD at spinup uses about 25 watts, and 30 disks then need about 750 watts, factor inn that...

Burebista, that is a very interesting tidbit, good investigative work. This means that M12-500/600W owners can disable the 60mm fan if they wish without fear of impairing the function of the PSU (although voiding warranty of course). Not sure that I'd do that. Why not just get an S12? It's not like...

So, what we've got here is likely a Seasonic-sourced modular-cable PSU with 80% efficiency at average loads (if Johnny is to be believed)? That sounds like the holy grail, to me. My NeoPower 480, while not the quietest or most efficient, did quite well and I loved the modular plugs, but alas, I was...

This corsair-PSU might be a rebadge of the seasonic, an in any case it would be interesting to see a comparison between them. 50A in 12v (which is more or less the only voltage tha counts), is impressive for a 620 Watt supply.

Re: ATX cable detachable
One question is why make the ATX cable detachable? There's no situation where this cable isn't needed. Potentially, this could be very useful for: 1. Having a 20+4pin cable vs a 24pin cable vs just a 20pin cable and/or 2. Having different lengths of ATX cable Yeah, and if you use it as a scond PSU ...

Ok, so lets say I have a filserver, and a PSU with 12v1 at 20 A, 12v2 at 20A and max total at 35A, you are saying that changes are good that if mye system (Mobo and CPU), use 5A, I can use a whole 30A for harddisks (eventhough neiter 12v1 og 12v2 is specified for that high current), becuase in real...

So let me get this straight. The 12V1 rail is dedicated to the cpu for the most part. The 12V2 rail is for the rest of the system. The power supply can supply as much amperage on either rail up to the limit of both rails added together. So if i had a power supply capable of 32 amps on both rails an...

"Just one folder" shouldn't really be a limitation. You can use RAID or Logical Volume Management to combine several discs or partitions into something the filesystem will treat as one, or you can use symbolic links ("shortcuts" in Windows) so that the slimserver software will see an extra folder a...

I was especially fascinated (by the fact and the explanation) that the high-end analog turntable delivered better sound than the CD player. Is this using discs made from analog recordings or from digital recordings ? (Do they do that -- make analog phonodiscs from digital recordings?) It's well acc...

" but the emergence of SACD and DVD-Audio, along with the sheer number of high end CD players with 4 and even 5 digit price tags should be enough to cast doubts about perfection. Improvements on perfection don't make sense, and such expensive CD players would not exist if CD players provided perfect...

I meant energy/power/intensity - whatever you want to call it. Remember for incoherent sound, you should be talking about the *square* of the acoustic Pressure (which is proportional to intensity/energy). A doubling in the energy received (i.e. 3dB, NOT 6dB) means half as long exposure time, and so...

ATWindsor - You're getting things muddled up slightly - the 'exchange rate' as it is known for personal noise exposure purposes, is 3dB here in the UK. i.e. if the measured level increases by 3dB, the sound energy doubles. In Canada and the US (I think), the exchange rate is less severe at 5dB. I d...

Seems promising, but the test is a bit short on info, under load the diffrence between the amd and intel system is 27 watt (if you use a 75% efficient PSU). I wonder how much of that is the CPU. Also, the new CPU seemed really promising on the first read-through, but on the second i noticed the yona...

This has been mentioned, but I want to quantify it a bit - legislating a maximum sound output from a device doesn't necessarily affect the output dB. I don't know what the variation in headphones is, but loudspeaker sensitivity can vary from something 86 dB @ 1W & 1m to 98 db 1W & 1m. If I remember...

The chances are simply too great that you will...

I my real question is will a Nexus 120 at 12v push more or less air than a Silenx. My problem is that I need air flow and putting in a fan that is quiet but doesn't push enough air kind of pointless. The older Silenx fans with the larger hub put out about the same amount of noise at the same amount...

As an owner of a Phantom 350 i can say it does need some airflow, not much though. A 120mm fan in the back at 400-500rpm is enough. Its fine as long as it feels only warm and not burning hot. Varm on the back-side, or warm on the top/bottom? (inside the case). I have mine cooled by a nexus 5v 120mm...

I was running my Phantom in the lower chamber of my P180 for a long while with no fan at all. I had no problems whatsoever, and I measured the max temperature at the surface of the PSU to 50C. It should be enough. I have a nexus@5V in the upper chamber, everything is passive, CPU GPU etc. I believe they generate more heat than the PSU itself would. Yeah i guess, I would guess my system uses no more than 250 watt in the peaks. That is abit over 60 watts in the PSU, if it has 80% efficienc...

Is a 5v Nexus enough to cool the Antec Phantom?
I have an antec p180, in the bottom chamber I only have a PSU and a nexus-fan (120mm) . I used to have an elan vital greenberger, but i turned itself on from time to time, despite beeing (IMHO) pretty good cooled with a nexus at 7v. I then replaced it with an antec phantom. However, at 7v it now mak...

I have an Asus A8N Premium, which seem to be abit of a stupid buy from me, my system is cooled with a zalman reserator, and has a 5v 120mm fan in the back (a antec p180), the heatsink by the CPU/fan is reasonbly hot, but the part just over the NB is painful to toouch and very hot, I also get a high ...
