Happily, there is almost no noise difference. I can detect a slight difference if I get up very close and completely cover the hole. I'm sure it would be another story if I set all my fans to max speed. The CPU fan is blowing down onto the heatsink. Originally, I was planning on somehow modding the ...

My CPU Duct (Pictures!)
Wow, this is my 100th post. :) I thought I'd finally post a picture of my CPU duct. It leads straight to my Zalman 7000A-Cu which cools my P4 2.53 GHz CPU. The Zalman has been modded with a chrome fan (see my other thread in this forum). Here is what the duct is made of: 1. Hole in case panel 2. Met...

I have two Seasonic Super Tornado 300 PSUs and I like them a lot. Not everyone has had the same experience with these - there are different revisions and they behave differently with different hardware. But I love mine. I also use a SilenX 300 iXtrema Pro (from silenx.com ) which makes even less noi...

so by changing the fan itself, you dropped the RPM's to 1065 RPM and yet managed to keep the CPU cool? My duct has a lot to do with my CPU cooling. The Zalman fan doesn't have to work as a mere circulator anymore. My CPU is a 2.53GHz P4. My ambient temperature right now is around 24C (according to ...

You can replace your fan like I did here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=11827 My replacement fan runs at around 1065 RPM plugged into the Fan Mate. My CPU is ducted so I can get away with lower RPM if the fan would let me. I have two Zalman 7000 heatsinks (one is the all copper ve...

For a home theatre PC, I'd get something closest to 17" wide, in desktop form. I wouldn't recommend the Antec Overture... It is the right width but way too deep for most stereo furniture. I have one in the garage. It ran very hot as well. I have a much older black antec ATX desktop case. It is one o...

How are the case temps after the PSU switch? How about CPU temps? Did you notice a significant raise in temps after the machine has been on for a few hours (new psu vs. old psu)? So far there is no difference at all, temperatures (case, CPU, hd) are the same. My CPU fan pulls air directly from outs...

SilenX iXtrema PROseries 300W PSU - just got mine
I've been using two Seasonic Super Tornado 300W power supplies in two of my computers for a while now. I'm not sure what revision they are, but I couldn't complain. The fans start every time and the 120mm fan spins at around 875 rpm and I've never seen it speed up any faster. I've read other user's ...

I love my Samsung. The only problem I have is the temperature sensor. It has aways reported the temperature to be way lower than it really is. The Evercool fans I got were from CompUSA. They were pretty expensive ($15 each!) but I was desperate. To mount the fan, I first drilled two 1.5mm holes below the fan, just as the stock Zalman fan is drilled. I left the fan in the aluminum frame during this procedure. Then, I removed the fan from th...

Thanks! This suspension really does an excellent job at making the drive quieter. I'll try and get another picture - right now I'm still refining things. :) Here is the trick to vertical suspension in the 3.5" bay. It is arranged exactly like the 5 1/4" picture - just tilt your head (or the picture)...

Zalman 7000A AlCu modded w/ CHROME FAN! (picture!)

I have previously modded it with a black Panaflo fan as seen here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=10443 I picked up a 92mm Evercool aluminum frame with chromed fan modded for use with my Zalman. This time I mounted it with 1.8mm Stretch M...

I have decided to move the drive back to the internal 3.5" hard drive bay - but this time mounted vertically and suspended with Stretch Magic. I'd say SeaSonic Super Tornado, most likely rev. 1. :D Cheers, Jan Yes, it is a Seasonic Super Tornado 300. :) I'm not sure which revision it is. The fan starts all the time at every power-up. It stays around 880 RPM and never speeds up no matter what I make the computer do at 100% usage. It is a 2...

Re: New Nexus 120mm fan...1000RPM @ 12v undervolt potential?
1000 RPM is already pretty slow, and if you were to go much lower, I think it would become just about useless for any kind of cooling. The 120mm fan in my PSU spins at 880 RPM (stock, no mods). It is very effective at cooling not just the PSU, but my system as well. This is what makes larger diamet...

Well, the top dog brand in rotary tools is FOREDOM, (sp?) but you are talking $eriou$ industrial tool quality and price for one of those. That's what I use, a FOREDOM Flex Shaft series CC setup. But for case modding, I usually use nothing more than a $10 Nibbler from Radio Shack. No electricity nee...
