Or more simply, ambient • adjective 1 relating to the immediate surroundings of something. Case temperature isn't uniform - i.e. ambient temp at the CPU heatsink is higher than around the drives/intake point. Also, rate of heat loss increases as the difference between heatsink and air temperature in...

Good Christ! Poor Antec. Apparently there is nothing they can do to ever make the "perfect case". I blame the silencers. If they can't get their acts together and have the same opinions, they don't deserve the perfect case. ;) Personally I think it's great, though I prefer the design and look of th...

It looks quite clear that overclocking is going to happen, so is this going to be a watercooled project or air-cooled? If quietly air cooled, a 380W is fine. Water cooling allows for overvolting and thus faster clocks within a quiet PC, so I would go up to the 430. No need for the 500W. n.b. I'm all...

IMHO, you should learn to appreciate the joys of constant velocity fans. I find fan ramping more audible than a constant rate. Unfortunately that depends on how you use your system - noise level for an SLI/Prescott system could be high at load, but you don't want that for the 70% of the time it's i...

New video card causes motherboard temp rise
For reasons I simply do not understand, my Asus A8V's motherboard temperature shot up to 52°C after installing a Radeon X700. It was in the low-thirties with the R9600 it replaced. I have to run the fan twice as fast to stop it rising any higher... CPU and drive temperatures are now lower, the card ...

I cannot remember if the 9100 has a temperature sensor, if not your best bet to find out if it's overheating is touch the heatsinks. You could also see what other people think and upload a picture of it to Hot or Not ;) Seriously though, use the ATI Tool program to scan for artifacts, this will plac...

That depends on where air flows in your case. If you suspend it near an intake area (e.g. behind the front fan hole) then the disk will be cooled by the air rushing in. For temperature, 50°C is the accepted maximum, though I prefer to keep it below 45°. Regarding straightness, a post here concluded ...
