I've now cut 'n' pasted my post to the other thread as well! :) Unfortunately, I don't have any way of measuring load from the wall socket. It won't be very high though as my system has just 1GB memory and uses a 2.5" hard disk (and obviously a laptop DVD writer also). I use the integrated graphics ...

The enclosure of the LC19 looks to be almost exactly the same dimensions as the ML02 though there are differences in the vents at the top. I also note on the Silverstone web site that a new versio...

Great info, Mariner! I was looking at the Zalman CNPS8000 low profile HSF with 62.5mm height. Do you think it would fit in the LC19 (I read somewhere it has 68mm headroom)? Silverstone has a new case, the ML02. It looks like it may have more breathing room than the LC19. Regarding the Zalman: NO NO...

Thanks for your review Amourek! I'm interested in this biostar board as well (because of HDMI plus DVI). I want to pack it into the small Silverstone LC19B case with its passive power supply. My "wish" would be to be able to cool the cpu passively. Perhaps by cutting of the stock heatsink so that i...

I can recommend the ASRock as well. Not sure how well it bears up to high temperatures though as my system is very low power (undervolted Sempron). That said, the only cooling is a very low profile heatsink with a 80x15mm fan running at 5V and I haven't encountered any problems with overheating.

Incidentally, I just noticed the following report: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7147 Indicates that AMD's UVD won't find it's way into an integrated chipset until Q1 2008. :( I'd imagine this probably means that NVidia's equivalent won't be around until that time either and who knows...

The most obvious scenario not mentioned is multi-tasking. It's all very well and good if your CPU is able to decode 1080p but this precludes you using it for much of anything else at the same time. Offload video decode onto specialised hardware and you'll still have plenty of CPU cycles available to...

Is this really needed, though? People have gotten 1080p playing on a Mac Mini and that is only a Core Duo (not C2D) with Intel's GMA950 (which is also not the current generation). Now, not all 1080p content is created equal and what's on Blueray and HD-DVD is a tough road to hoe. Still, by the time...

AMD doensn't even have their discreet DX10 cards out yet, so I think it's much too early to start waiting for an integrated one. There's always something behind the corner, no need to waste thoughts on RS790 as it's not coming out anytime soon. AMD seem to be making big noises about a whole platfor...

As a matter of interest, the AMD RD790 chipset has apparently now passed the PCI-SIG compliance tests. Hopefully this will mean the RS790 with integrated DX10 graphics and UVD video support will not be far behind. The UVD function is reputed to get 128/130 (out of 130) on the HQV video test as well ...

Personally, I think it's just a bit unfortunate that we have such limited size ranges in readily-available cases. The LC-19 and the Hiper cases have enclosures just 50mm high which, as I've found doesn't really leave much room at all for cooling. Other common cases designed for HTPC then seem to be ...

I've not tried the Hiper heatsink without the fan. The heatsink itself is very low-profile - just 20mm high so I doubt this would be enough to passively cool my CPU unless it was running around 800MHz@0.85V! I did look into finding a taller passive heatsink (something in the region of 35-40mm high w...

If hardware manufacturers don't have their sh*t together with regard to Vista drivers, how is this Microsoft's fault (which is what you seem to be implying here)? Just a quick mention for the AM2 Sempron 3200. Mine runs stock 1.8GHz clock at just 0.975V. Puts out practically no heat.

Just the basic boxed version - not the more expensive EE version. I can recommend the ASRock motherboards as well which support undervolting down to 0.8V in the bios.
