Holy Crapper!

OH MAN. I just installed my VGA Silencer bought from Ed and one of those Zalman NB chips. I have a feeling that that was half the battle. Its so much quieter I can't believe it! Far from silent, but MAN what a difference! Here's what I"m worried about though. The NB temp took a leap from ~45 idle to...

Well my problem with the 120mm fans is that I'm planning on building a duct. Okay, so the fan controller for silence is a negative... So would running a fan line out of my psu and into a fan controller feasable? Or could I just stick a thermistor in there? Any ideas? Thanks for the feedback so far.

Best powersupply to mod.

Howdy. In my looking for the best power supply, I was really set on the Super Silencer 300w, but the price tag is GLARING. My good buddy Ed said that I should consider getting a Fortron (Not the bottom feeding 120mm ones, but the standard 1 80mm ones) and just modding it myself. I am perfectly comfo...

Maybe EMT? Er... whatever that electromagnetic interference achronym is?

Haha put sheet metal around your case??

Or you could verify the squeeling noise by stopping fans one at a time and actually determine WHERE the sound is coming from.

By the way... That is one BEAST of a system...

Hm... Well he went and bought a 550W (!!!) Antec TrueControl... He says that fixed the problem...

But then a techie guy over there said that his motherboard was... "Improperly grounded, and letting out voltage"???

Eh... I think i'll just stick to a Super Silencer 300w.

He's not running much anything else... Two HDs on SATA, a fanless 9600... the crappy one... the stock rear fan, and a DVD-ROM.

Scared about how much a PSU can run

My friend's Antec 380w (came with his Sonata) didn't run his AMD64 3000+. I've read here that people have had NO trouble running their 64's on a 300W. I only want to run a wimpy 2.66 P4, but my friend's experience has me worried that a Super Silencer 300w wont have enough 12v amps. Can anyone gimme ...

For your VGA silencer, you should get them from www.svc.com. They usually have it cheap, and if you sign up for their newsletter they have these 9.99 deals. Save yourself the money on rounded cables; just get flat ones and learn how to fold them. There are much cheapter 80mm fans. www.bestbyte.com h...

Wait... the v2000 places the PSU below the main components, right? Therefore the heat should naturally rise, going right into your CPU etc. I think that the SilverStone was designed to be at the top of the case, thereby allow convection to do its thang without interrupting everythin else.

If you want spectacular performance with the Zalman I believe you'll have to replace the fan and decouple it. There are a couple threads floating around about how to do and what the effects were.

If he isn't a gamer, then he could go even cheaper. The 5 series is right in that niche of "I want to game", yet, its horrible for that.

For a nongamer, I recommend the MX440 series. Really cheap, awesome for non-gamers. :)
