Also I've got a meaty Tinker (...

This is just my guess, but maybe when you are executing non-SSE code you have more ALU left in your CPU (arithmetic logic units that actually do the work of addition, etc.). Since HT is based on "leftover" ALUs laying around it might be very possible that since non-SSE calculations use less ALU (a g...

Stanford page does not list my protein, why?
I probably know why. It is because it only lists it when it issues the WU and then it does not afterwards. Is this correct? However, the question is - I have a WU working on my box and I can't find the credit for it - it does not seem right!!! Does it mean that if I get a WU then Stanford pulls it f...

239.0 pt monster!
So I got a Tinker! A 239.0 point one. And my filthy Palomino 1.77 Ghz generates well over 1k PPW. Weehahahaa! It seems like Stanford has adjusted their point values already. Here are the technical details for so oriented: Protein p639_L939_K12M_nat Protein Core Tinker Credit 239.00 Deadline 45.00 Ti...

This is a really cool info. Thanks a lot! One minor detail, I think queue.dat can store 10 WUs, so PF is calculated on max of 10 WUs. Plus you can erase queue.dat if you were slacking and want to "fix" your PF. Plus you can hack queue.dat :) Actually it is a good idea. You can use qd or something to...

How about not upgrading for about a year and let AMD and Intel figure out their socket troubles? My AMD 3600+ is plenty fast for whatever I do 8) 1) No socket is forever. I figure if you wait, you'll be waiting forever. After all, if you just wait long enough, ANY socket, be it 370, 462, 478, 775, ...

What is funny is that my XP 2200+ (1.77 GHz) shows 757 PPW which is very close to your Barton. Figure those perf ratings after all. 993 / 757 = 1.31 2200 * 1.31 = 2882 which means that what AMD thinks is Barton 3200+ is in fact Barton 2800+ taking this WU as a measuring tool. I know I know FAHLogSta...

It seems that by the time I'm back in this thread the spirited discussion about dangers of FSB has died down :) Good. As far as why people fold with AMD it is because AMD is cheaper. I paid $60 or $65 for my Thorton 2000+ and overclocked it to 3000+ speeds simply by increasing the FSB. I want to see...

I don't understand how you can increase the FSB on a processor without making it super unreliable. My Thoroughbred 2400+ crashes before it gets off the ground if I try to do that. No way would I try to overclock the FSB. A CPU does not have a notion of the FSB. Motherboard does. My Barton 2.4 runs ...

All of my AMD machines are getting non-SSE2 WUs. My only p4-like machine (Celeron 2.7) gets these SSE2 thingies exclusively. Sorry for polluting your thread again David but my point was that if a deadline for a particular WU is like (I actually don't know how much it is) XXX days (where XXX is a lot like 150?) then this particular WU is not very urgent. All important data should be backed up anyway. 2 HDDs won't help one bit if the one containing your data fails. If you have lots of data to backup, an external drive is a good idea. An external drive seems like a noisy solution unless I miss something? It depends on the particular model. But the ma...

If you could be more clear about your goals, i.e. how silent you want your rig. Also what kind of hardware you have inside, i.e. CPU, fans, heatsinks, video, drives, etc. I personally think that if you don't want a super silent PC you can get 4 Panaflos (L1A) and run them at 12v using the stock fan ...

Reply to those who want to have 2 partitions to reinstall Windows: IMHO if you reinstall Windows you are automatically going to reinstall all/most apps that you have. That leaves you with the need to preserve your _data_. Well, how much _data_ do you have? Even if you have gigabytes of mp3 from Kaza...
