Most PSUs will turn on with the paperclip trick.

However, some (older) PSUs required some load (1-2A) on 5V rail, or the regulation of 12V rail was off, especially when loading the 12V rail heavily (more than 3A).

Re: cpu

Which is what cool'quiet gives you, so those undervolting soft are not worth the trouble anymore. You do still gain much by using less than spec voltage under load (same as basic undervolting from BIOS without Cool 'n' Quiet). C'n'Q defaults to 1,4 V (1.5 V for Clawhammer/NewCastle). You should be ...

Click Configure and look what sensors give what temperatures (the Chip column). There is a quite comprehensive list of different H/W monitoring chips on the SpeedFan page (as sundevil_1997 already linked), so you can check what you should see. LM7x/8x/9x sensors are usually found, because some H/W m...

Well, I did measure the rotor lock currents for the Nexus few months back. This was with a $20 multimeter, so the results might not be accurate.

I got 105 mA with 12,7 V, which adds up to 1,33 W.

I'm afraid it's not possible. The head/slider assembly is designed to float above the platters, and the correct flying height is maintained by an air bearing. This air bearing is generated from the spinning platters (Bernoulli effect?), and is proportional to the rotation speed. Should the speed dro...

PowerNow is used in mobile chips, while Cool 'n' Quiet is the desktop "counterpart".

There are few reports claiming that the new Socket754 Sempron 2600+ and 2800+ don't support Cool 'n' Quiet (read: multiplier locked). Sempron 3000+ and 3100+ are said to support CnQ.
