It definitely does have the potential to cause data corruption and/or speed problems. Sure, each signal wire will be next to a ground wire, but it might also be next to another signal wire (ie. above or below it). The whole point of alternating between signal/ground wires is to avoid the signal cros...

The main FAH executable was renamed to Win32.exe and it was installed in directory C:\Win32\dll. There was obviously an intent to hide this. This is not an innocent mistake, but enemy action. Unless (and this is possible, but very unlikely) chad5871 (the person who was "infected") is actually just ...

Always wanting to give the benefit of the doubt, I'm trying to believe that somebody from another team posted that link in order to discount jethroted's integrity. However, the evidence (and my gut) indicates otherwise. Especially the # of active processors thing. Plus, even if he really was just in...

Trust me, it is inaudible. Perhaps over the rest of your system at the moment... --- Have you tried sticking a ruler or something into your PSU fan to prevent it from spinning? (Do this before turning the machine on, and don't leave the system on too long, and no damage should occur. Also, make sur...

MajinWu, Fair enough. If you're happy with it, then I'm happy. I did read and heed your comments about the current noise level of your system. However, I'm just used to looking at things in the same way as those people on this forum that debate whether having ONE 5V Panaflo L1A in a system is too mu...

Bezel airflow is important for drive cooling. If you do end up reversing your PSU airflow, you'll have roughly neutral pressure in the case, resulting in no airflow over the drives. Same deal if you duct the PSU to the top hole (which would then become an intake). So you might as well do the bezel m...

I'd have thought most PSU manufacturers wouldn't WANT us to know how many watts our system is consuming... because then they wouldn't be able to sell us 450-watt PSUs for our 150-watt systems anymore! But I wouldn't mind that feature on my next PSU, if there's not a major price premium demanded by i...

My opinion: add a 5V L1A and go for it. However, only your opinion matters, and only you can judge the value of permanently overclocking your CPU. Have you tried installing a 5V Panaflo, just to see what the noise will be like? Maybe give that a try first. If it bothers you enough that you find it's...

This is interesting. Why do you think P4 blades seem to draw significantly (ie. noticeably) less current? Aren't the chips roughly similar in wattage? So is it the chipset? Other factors? All this time, I thought the opposite was true (completely unfounded assumption though), so this is a surprise t...

1) He means: remove the fan in the blowhole, and create a duct from the hole to your PSU, with the PSU fan exhausting as normal (but perhaps replaced by an M1A). That way, the PSU would be sucking cold air from the outside, without messing with reversing airflow direction, etc. This can be accomplis...

The heatsink is never, ever hotter than the device it is cooling. That's the whole point. So with no active airflow, the whole component/heatsink assembly won't cool down *quickly* after it is turned off. So... who cares?! Say you're fine running your CPU all day at 50C, why do you care how quickly ...

If you run your computer at 100%, then immediately shut down, the CPU temp will actually get hotter for a short time before cooling off. In theory, leaving the exhaust fans running for a time after shut-down, avoids this problem. Where does this extra heat come from? When you turn the stove off but...

PSUs that keep fans running after shutdown... balogna?
I've read about some recent PSUs that keep their fans running for a period of time after the computer has shut down. What benefit does this provide? Once you shut down the PC, the only heat left to remove is residual heat, which should disperse naturally anyway (albeit more slowly... but who cares?)...

Fair enough. I am not dissing Pirata's idea or suggestion, just that given the $$$ charged for fanless PSUs, their being marketed as ATX PSUs is a bit of a joke -- and a travesty -- to the buying public, who cannot always be informed -- certainly not as well informed as SPCR regulars. I'll keep say...

MikeC, in all fairness to Pirata's idea, how is suggesting that users put their PSU outside the case (something that you yourself have done and demonstrated to others) going to cause any more "issues" than suggesting that users create "fresh-air PSU ducts"? I mean, extending/routing/sleeving cables ...

Exactly, MikeC. With all this Physics theory floating around, and claims that soft-mounting could reduce durability and increase seek times, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that nobody has ever noticed a performance or reliability drop (pun intended) from suspending their hard drives. So let's s...

So, the general consensus is that heatpipes will work "sideways" (as opposed to standing up straight), but not as effectively , correct?
