Where are those motherboards with the 6 full length PCIE slots when you need them???

It also seems the 980 has a lot more grunt for very little additional power usage. Yeah the price of admission stings, but if you want to compete with Cordis......

Happy 2015

Just saying "2015" seems like I am living in the future. It doesn't seem possible. 2014 sure was a mixed bag. Too much and too little of everything. It seems for every positive thing mankind does it also does 3 more in the other direction. Why does everything and everyone have to be so polarized? Wh...

Re: Advice on a "second-grade" folding rig

Such a pity that AMD socket AM1 motherboards are so limited in slots. You can pick up a new 25 watt process for like $40. But you can forget about PCIe slots, let alone 2 of them. Oddly enough my Sandy Bridge quad core with integrated video would idle at 35 watts, so perhaps the point is moot. I'd l...

Re: Panasonic stopping all Plasma TV production

Yes, Monoprice is the bomb for accessories. Observations, this using a Sony BD player about $60. DVDs are more juddery, halos with fast movement. Facial hair is there when still, as soon as there is any movement it goes, as if the camera loses focus. While Blu-rays are smoother they also are not per...

Re: Panasonic stopping all Plasma TV production

May it live long? Any company that places capacitors next to scorching heat sinks is not ignorant, it's planned obsolescence. The government has spent a decade getting the public to accept Social Security is going away. Flat panel TVs manufactures have spent a decade getting the public to accept tha...

Re: Panasonic stopping all Plasma TV production

Well your chance at a new plasma is all but finished. A few 60" inch LGs and Samsungs are available here and there, the last of the 51" 5300 series are all pentile sets. I need not their history of failure nor cost of ownership. I settled for a Samsung H6350. The brightness is superb, I don't unders...

My precautions tend to be more like pull more cash out of the ATM and use that at Target and other stores for small purchases. I don't need this crap. The fewer transactions you create anywhere the safer you are.

Re: Speakers with TV

High end audio is not crap. But there many companies that claim to be high end and are liars. There are no high end receivers. All receivers, even the $2000 models are all built to a price point, with tons of features that may actually degrade sound quality, which is why Denon used to have a "pure d...

Re: Speakers with TV

You should buy what you can afford and enjoy. Years ago CTR TVs and monitors required shielded speakers, this is no longer an issue for most people. Computer speakers are more sound compromised than most speakers, but if you like certain ones by all means. I chose a low priced 2 channel receiver and...

Re: Backblaze HD reliability survey vs Newegg customer revie

It's rather unfortunate that Newegg reviews have been "Amazon-ed" and have become pretty much useless. In the old days a "hard drive" review was based on 1 model and 1 capacity on Newegg, so you could see if a certain size drive had more problems than others with say fewer platters. Not anymore, lik...

Re: Seagate Desktop 4TB, any input?

I'm staying away from 4TB drives, slower or faster these 5 platter jobs run hotter than their 3TB 4 platter counterparts. This is fine with a drive in a PC enclosure, but in an external all plastic tiny enclosure they are much more likely to run above their temp spec, resulting in shorter life.

How Goes Work.

I've been an IT consultant for almost 8 months now. Coding phase is almost complete. I've been asked to join the test team, that's good. That work is 1800 miles away, there's no relocation or expenses paid. That's not so good. Final decision will be based on the usual, do I have any choice? My goal ...

I got the K400 as well, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126264 I like having the touch pad out of the way, no accidental swipes. No real reason the top row of keys is so short, no harm either. I really like using VLC Player on the PC, quite an assortment of deinterlacers, th...

FIOS jacked up my bill by 30%

My Internet & phone went from $74 to $96. I can't believe this crap. Options? I see Time Warner actually has a monthly rental fee for the modem, but you can buy your own modem. I'm not home much, I may go with the public library & Starbucks options for a while.

Re: Panasonic stopping all Plasma TV production

This was an interesting development of the Holiday. The Samsung PN51F5300, a 51 inch 1080P plasma wth no frills, dropped 20% in price to $529. The 42 and 43 inch 720P plasmas didn't budge and don't expect them to either. Given plasmas rather limited life expectency this may hold some of us over unti...
