Been using the stock pushpins on the xigmatek coolers without problems, seems to fit very snug too, with good temps to boot... but using pushpins without having enough pressure could be a problem, ofcourse. If you remove the HS and re-install it couple of times, you will see wear and tear on the pl...

Thank you very much for your answers! The Revoltec Northbridge Freezer can be mounted with pushpins, but the holes are not adjustable. I read (after I bought the cooler) that the distance between the holes on the A8N-SLI are not standard. So I will measure to se if it looks like it can work. If it ...

The issue is not really whether push-pins can be secure. They certainly can. The issue is that they are very difficult to install correctly with a large heatsink. There is usually at least one pin that is blocked by part of the heatsink. There is also the problem that the only real way to confirm t...

From what I recall of the SPCR review on the P183, it would be a little noisier with the door open, but about the same with the door closed (and with less-restrictive faceplates and such, keeping the door open for airflow isn't as "necessary"). Though looking back at Lawrence's conclusions, I'd for...

The Noctua chipset cooler got too hot to touch with the same fan on it. I'd say the HR-05 is better at dissipating heat (thanks to the way the fins are sh...

IMO, there are a few important things to remember about fan-swapping when you are wiring the fan to the PSU header. 1. A lot of PSU's have low fan voltages when they start up or when the system is idle, so it is important to get a fan that has a low starting voltage, like around 3-4V. 2. Unless you...

I RMAed my 550VX because the fan was making a clicking noise, very similar to a loud hard drive seek noise, in the fan motor assembly itself. They told me to loosen the screws and all that BS. RMA comes back, same damn fan, same clicking noise. Spinning the fan manually, you can hear that the beari...

I used a Xigmatek Crossbow bolt through kit to mount the Minja. The kit only cost about $10. There are also other similar kits that will work. My point was that the fan on the mini ninja will be blowing horizontally. Unless your stock NB heatsink is tall enough, the air from the fan will blow right over the top of the NB heatsink. What you really need is a fan blowing down onto the NB. My NB stands 3.5 cm tall. What I probably need most u...

Depending on fan orientation, I think the Minja will sufficiently cool the NB chip. I might add that if I buy the Minja, I will use a 92mm fan.

I honestly don't know if you can get away with that little airflow in the case and not have a thermally controlled fan ramp up. Generally, I've found that stock heatsinks on NB's do the job fairly well. Not to say that they run cool, just that NB chips generally have pretty high thermal tolerances. But I understand your desire to have a cooler running system. Undervolting the NB is probably a good idea. Since your CPU is at...
