If either one of the drives dies, you lose everything I agree! Well here is my plan: 2 x 160 GB sata = 320 GB C drive: 60 GB for os and programs D drive: 260 GB data I periodically take a backup of the whole D drive into external HDD (looking for firewire daisy chained hdd). Thus if I want to do a ...

I am in the process of building a silent PC with P4C800-E deluxe mobo with INTEL pentium 4 3.0E Ghz 800 Mhz FSB Socket 478, 2 samsung SP1614C in RAID 0 with w2k professional as my os. My understanding is that RAID 0 looks at the two HDD as one entity. I am planning to partition the RAID 0 entity int...

My idea is to have two or three computers on the network only for web surfing - I would like to isolate the web surfing machines from my workstation. Having set that as my goal I am looking for the smallest case (just one cd and one hdd) possible. I am afraid PC30 is too big! I do like LIAN LI and h...

After all this info I went ahead and bought NEC ND-2500A DVD/RW drive - The price of $92 from newegg and decent review at cdfreaks.com swayed my decision. Also http://www.dvdrhelp.com has excellent user ratings of ND-2500A!

Recommend Smallest ATX form factor Case
I am building a new computer and would like to reuse the old ATX mobo and build a small pc just for web surfing! Any recommendations? I am looking to keep just one hard disk and one CD (no floppy drive) and a small PSU. Silence is very important! I am looking for ATX form factor and not min-ATX

I found the correct machine screw and washer that go with G-410 from SEARS! Now I put in just ONE grommet into the DVD drive bay in my lian li PC-61 and tried to insert the drive! Well it is a close fit! Even with one grommet the drive cannot be inserted! Now if I put two the only way I can insert t...

Gosh, It was f**uped to find the specs for the screws and at last I got it! The spec for CD drive is M3 X 0.5 thread pitch and length is probably 6 mm (guessing the length here). To use the G-410 grommet I need a M3 X 0.5 12 mm length with some washers... And yes the CD drive screws, hdd screws and ...

DVD Drive damping & Grommet
I wish to use the EARS grommet G-410 with EARS screws SB4102 to silence my DVD-RW drive! Oops the SB4102 does not go in the DVD-RW drives :( Are the HDD screws different from DVD-RW screws? If so, what is the spec on the DVD-RW screws? I am basically looking for the appropriate screws that that can ...

JVM, You are right :D I just checked and it is 5.25 bay - I did not care because I have lots of spare bays :) Did you try Compunurse advance? This comes with same rectangular display but with dual temp readouts! But you will have to get handy to put this in 3.5' bay? See here http://www.extensiontec...

JVM, I think this is 3.5' bay fixture. I just ordered one and the cheapest one can get is here http://www.coolerguys.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=291 I am planning to use one sensor for the HDD (SAMSUNG two SP1614C in RAID 0) and one for the GFX (ATI 9800 PRO AIW). I feel the pain JVM is going thru to get the temps from sata samsung drives :( BTW all these utilities rely on the SMART chip reporting feature and it is either correct or incorrect - According to Alex (author of MBM) just because a drive is SMART it does'nt mean that reporting will be correct! I am...

It is a fact that aluminium cases resonates! It is tough to get a girlfriend who is both intelligent and beautiful :) Having said that one can take precautions to minimize resonance like: 1. Making sure that all drives are grommet mounted (dvd drives, floppy drives etc.) 2. Making sure that all fans...

Most of the opinion is steel is quieter than aluminium -- I was restling with the same buying decision but ultimately I bought LIAN LI PC-61 case because of ease of working -- everything in PC-61 is removable including mobo and hence it is easy to build DIY computer especially for the first time bui...

I want 4 display Temperature Panel (no fan control)
I am in the market for mounting a 4 display temperature panel in the 5.25 bay! All the products I see has fan controls and one has to display one setting at a time. All I want is to see the temperatures of HDD, VGA, CASE & CPU SIMULTANEOUSLY (without any toggle switch) in four small displays. Can so...

JVM, I had an email conversation with MBM author about temp sensing! Temp sensing will not work for any SATA setup on samsung drives but he said that non SATA version (SP1614N ) one can probably get the temp readings. Since you have used the SATA and NON SATA versions do you see any advantage OR dis...

Edward Ng,
Are u aware that PLEXTOR is coming with PX-712A -- Also HP has come with using the DVD drive to burn DVD labels -- Read everything in here http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=11074
Hopefully I will wait till PX-708A price drops
