If I remember correctly the first 36gb raptors were ball bearing and they are a lot louder then the new raptors. The bigger one's are also faster.

As is ilh , I am overclocking mildly, and also have low temps. ilh has a 3200+ with a default clock speed of 2,000 MHz, which is 200 BUS x 10x Multiplier. His RAM overclocks very well. I have a 3500+ with a default clock speed of 2,200 MHz, which is 200 BUS x 11x Multiplier. My RAM does NOT overclo...

go with venice core(939)! I think you can undervolt the venice core april 18th ship date and practically run it passive with the xp120. dfi is best mobo but chipset cooler needs to be replace with passive heatsink. Monarchcomputer a ship date of may 6th for low end venice. To OP: Your system is sho...

DFI nf4, overclocking and cool' n' quiet

I was always under the impression that you should disable c'n'q, if you wanted to overclock. Apparantly I was misinformed.

I guess the extra airflow at the bottom of the case cooled better then the heatsinks. Besides the temps were pretty low to begin with (29c). Anyway I move my comp around alot so I preferred firm attachment to couple of extra degrees.

A bit of topic, but I just got my nexus disktwin couple of days ago and I gotta say they are great. Even thought the temps went a bit up (33c now) they really cut down the whine and seek noise compared to hard mounting.

Does this mean the RS480 has no AGP lock? No RS480 in it self is good. Just that the clock generator in this MSI board is not meant for overclocking. Also the voltage adjustments in it's bios are limited. I am waiting for the Sapphire "gruper" board to come out in 1-2 months. It has the same rs480 ...

Sounds like a nice rig. Since you are waiting for rev e, you could give a thought to this sapphire "Gruper" board. It's based on ATI Xpress 200 chipset. It should be a killer performer and it should be available in May, at least according to that thread (page 19). More pics here and here. Things tha...

It's not worth paying the extra bucks for the memory. Even value ram does decent job. Check this . Corsair wouldn't be worth it. If I were buying a bit better memory for a64 system I would buy Crucial Ballistix pc-3200. It's gold editor's choise in anandtech does incredibly well as shown in the firs...

I think he is referring to the weak structure of the abit pcb. The pcb can bend under the weight of the cooler and it can damage the board.

That's normal, don't worry about it. And that by itself won't cause instability problems on a 24-pin connector motherboard. The brown line is for 3.3V sense return line (Don't ask what it does), the orange is 3.3v. The missing pin USED to be -5v but was eliminated in ATX 1.3 and later. Thanks. Now ...

No reason to spend so much money on memory. Check this . The benefits from using that expensive corsair is pretty useless. You can get better results with cheaper crucial ballistix pc-3200 or just use any value memory and spend the extra cash on VGA. Remember a64 is more about latency then bandwith....
