@Errsa, autoboy, <anyone else who isn't completely convinced> Has anyone ever heard of Steve McIntyre? I posted a link to his blog before ( www.climateaudit.org ), but I don't think people realize who he is. He's the one who figured out the "hockey stick" is wrong! There's also the fact that we stil...

All I've got to say about it is that the whole "green" hype is just that - a lot of hype.
I'll point you towards one site in particular - www.climateaudit.org. Have a read through there and you'll see how some facts are not what they seem - see here for an example.

If I had to choose between the two today, I'd go for the HX520. Simply put, the noise measurements posted in the SPCR reviews are probably overestimates if anything for PSUs. The measurements are made from 1m away, behind the PSU (where the exhaust is). If you were to install the HX520 in a decent c...

What happens if you feel the base of the Ninja - the heatpipes specifically. If they're also cool-ish, then I'm guessing that you've just got poor thermal paste application on there. Like Redzo said, take a Nexus or S-Flex fan and run it at 5 or 7 volts. I'll give enough airflow to give a big drop i...

I've got the Stacker here at home, and it's got enough space for lots of drives, even without the 4-in-3 adaptor. The only major alteration I made was to stick a circular piece of cardboard in the side vent. This forces all the air to enter from the front of the case, over the hard drives, and then ...

Is spcr going to venture once again into fan swapping/controlling? As a side note for this... I don't think a fan swap would be all that great of an idea for this PSU. The actual cooling hardware seemed below par for the rated power output (~30C rise at full load), so I'm not sure how well it would...

Hey now... nobody calls me Nicky.... And Nexus or Scythe fans are both far better than TriCools (when you get down to the nitty gritty). I've just swapped out the TriCool that I had in my workstation for a Nexus running at about 7V, and there *is* a difference. I've also got two Scythe S-Flex...

I've got a PIII 700 that's running passively cooled right now. I've upgraded the stock cooler to a CNPS3100+, which sits right next to the TriCool fan on low. It's running SETI@Home 24/7 and the temperatures never go above 40C. That's also with a passively cooled 128MB Ti4200 video card. The biggest...

Just another note - when you look in BIOS, the CPU is running at full voltage. That 10C difference could very well be due to decreased voltages. No idea about the hard drive temperatures. That sensor comes from the SMART data that's fed to the system from the hard drive. Could be that the sensor on ...

Right now my sys temp is hovering around 37C with the Aopen 300W(not sure if that implies something negative for so modest a spec - maybe my case runs really hot, given that I employ *no* auxiliary case-fans for cooling), but I do seem to recall that it ran hotter with the S12(unfortunately, I can'...

Maybe I just don't understand the basics of this, but aren't these just fancy USB flash drives underneath? They're using the same NAND based technology that we find in our flash drives today, and many people know that flash drives have a limited number of read/writes. Will SSD drives be limited to a...

It could be the age old case of the BIOS and NHC reading the CPU temperatures at different places. One could be reading the die temperature, while the other is reading the temperature at the heatsink. I don't have any way of reading my CPU temperature in BIOS, but when I use NHC, Speedfan, NHC and M...

I'll agree with the last couple of posts. An old PIII system is all you really need. I've got a PIII 700 as my main web browser and audio player, and also for some file storage. If you take another look at the review, you'll see that the sound levels range from 28dBa to 40dBa for no fan to 100% case fan. The fact of the matter is that (a) the fan provided doesn't move enough air, and (b) it's a loud fan - regardless of the system provided inside. When I installed the Nexus ...

You don't need to suspend the fans if you can mount them to the back of the case. At a low speed, I'm hoping that the fans wouldn't transfer too much vibrations to the case. To be completely honest, all of my case fans are simply hard mounted into the case, since I can't tell the difference at my pl...

Hehe - welcome to the world of endless obsessions. :P Sounds (no pun intended) like you've made great progress on making your system quiet. Any specific reason why you can't go below the 0.95V of the lowest multiplier? Does the system become unstable? NHC should be able to control any multipler voltage that you specify. Regarding the video card voltage, you might be able to try something like ATITool or ATI Tray Tools. I've never looked...

You can try using Notebook Hardware Control to undervolt the processor. Just be sure you apply the latest Core Duo/C2D patch before running the program, otherwise you might end up with a BSOD.
