I'm disappointed at that there is no USB 3.0 in Zotac H55-ITX. I will not buy any new boards without USB 3.0. Even though there aren't many devices that use USB 3.0 yet, I want a system that would last me 6 years. So the first generation of ZOTAC H55-ITX will not cut it since we will supposedly get...

Thanks for looking! Note that I'm also selling this stuff on Anandtech and Arstechnica, so don't be surprised if you see it there. Some of my forum feedback: heatware , beerology , head-fi . I accept PayPal, or contact me for other methods. "Shipped" means within the US, most likely with USPS Priori...

This review at Xbitlabs, especially page 14, may help you. I'd go for 860s, with 8-threaded applications it's faster: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-870_14.html#sect0 But mini-ITX, I don't think so, IMO you shouldn't be greedy, just settle for uATX. Thanks! That should give a ...

i7-860S vs Q9550S
Q9550S seems like a nice CPU, but is probably getting on the outdated side. Meanwhile, the current top low-power-ish (82W TDP) LGA1156 CPU is the 860S. What should be expected, as far as performance goes? It seems hard to find benchmarks of the 860S, or at least ones that compare it against the Q955...

I agree with the people who say that a bad keyboard will probably not get any better... Maybe just give it a little more than 5 seconds to see if you can quickly get used to it and stop noticing it, but stiff keyboards aren't particularly enjoyable. As for Datahand, I'd want to try that out, if only...

People are getting notebooks true, but in a couple of years most of them are going to be running a media hub in their house, or fileservers as they where called "back in the day". Why would average non-technologically-oriented users want a media hub - let alone a self-built one where they micro-man...

Honestly, if you seriously only plan on assembling this PC in 6-9 months, you shouldn't bother looking at current components. The prices for current components will drop significantly, and other mid-range components will become available. But it's hard to say how far some of the prices will drop, an...

I'm a multiplayer fan, so, in no particular order: Civilization 2 - much more complex than the original, but much easier to just sit down and play than Civ 3/4. Half-Life series + mods - CS:S being my favorite of the bunch... but HL2 is probably the best single-player game ever. Age of Empires II - ...

Hmm... that does sound strange. Question: Was the HDMI output working before you opened it up to ziptie the cables? I wasn't too clear on that. If so, then you might have somehow damaged your video card... possibly via static. A few things worth trying: With both, the monitor and the TV, plugged in,...

The cards are not big by today's standards, and they'll easily fit into an Antec P183. The Silent Cell 9800GT will probably be longer, since it's got a bigger heatsink, but you can always take out the top HDD cage on the P183 to make any video card fit. The difference in performance isn't HUGE, so i...

With regards to HDMI/DVI: It's not possible to run HDMI at 2560x1600. Ever. So, even the rare 30" monitors that have HDMI-in will scale the resolution down to 1920x1200. With the exception of the troublesome Apple mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter, all DisplayPort to DVI adapters will also fail. So, t...

Guglhupf: There's definitely a market for people who do not want to mess with the standard coolers. :) But then there are a couple of other options that are much faster than the 9800GT, such as the passive Gigabyte HD4850. Well, if you mean REALLY "silent", then the fastest fanless option that I know of, out of the box, is that Gigabyte HD4850 that you mentioned. Depending on your case layout, the HD 5850 with an S1 and a slow fan would probably be fine. A Thermalright HR-03 cooler (I believe either Rev. A, GT, or GTX...

But why not buy a card one model line down, e.g. a 9600 GT instead of a 9800GT? That also saves power... There's a huge difference in performance between an underclocked and undervolted 9800GT and a 9600GT. Exactly. The Eco/Green 9800GT's are almost exactly on par with the standard 9800GT's. They'r...

IMO, the only versions of the 9800GT worth buying nowadays are the "green"/"eco" ones, with no PCIe power connector. Much lower power consumption, probably making it the most powerful PCIe-power-connection-less card on the market, or at least high up there. AFAIK, there's no silent version of it, bu...

Xbitlabs used one in their Radeon HD 5850 review : The distance between the mounting holes of the Radeon HD 5850 cooler is the same as on the Radeon HD 4870/4890 (75.5 millimeters), so you can try to install an alternative cooling system on this card. For example, a Thermalright T-Rad2 with two 92m...

Upgrading from 9600GT to an 8800-series card, nowadays, is really not worth it. But AMD's HD4850 (which should be getting very cheap right around now and exists in a fanless version or two) or better, or Nvidia's GTX260/216 or better will probably be worthy upgrades, if you find that you need more G...

the most disappointing thing about the p183 is that it doesn't come with the top hat over the vent, but i'll mock something up there instead... Ah, I didn't know about that.
