It has to be good. It got the Bling Bling award.

Looks can be deceiving - though I too would like to see (hear) what this thing really stacks up to be.

Reminds me of my two WD 80GB drive days.

That pulsating drove me insane. So insane that I bought a Seagate and never listened back.

I recently bought an 80GB WD SE for a couple of systems. I have to admit that I was quite impressed. There was no jet-airliner whining, and I could barely tell it was on. I also didn't notice the intermittent "chirps" that my 200GB Seagate does every so often. I give WD a thumbs up. Looks like they ...

I can imagine a hit on video editing, as my 7200RPM 8MB cache cuda just sits there with the HDD light blaring for as long as it takes to render. I think that is space isn't an issue that a larger Samsung or Seagate 7200RPM/8MB cache drive would be a good fit for you. Otherwise I'd wait for the new S...

Probably a Lite-On or a Sony (made by Lite-On). Easily the loudest drive I've ever heard, but one of the best. Plus they're shorter (SOHW).

Leave the disc out, if you value your ears! :)

Is your PC on the floor? Under the desk? I've had to place my PC on the floor because the MaXtor HDD whines so much that it annoys the hell out of me. I guess it would be worse if someone accidentally got Seagate and MaXtor confused, or recommended a 40mm fan to cool your cpu. :) I just used the anandtech website to limit the risks involved setting up my A64m system. My 200GB has louder seeks too. I'm not a SeekPhreek so it doesn't really bother me.

My temps with the 200GB are higher, but of course I have a new case which restricts airflow more.

But it's still quiet in idle, so I have no complaints.

Alas, one can only mess with RAM and a HDD. I guess that's the price you pay for being 'cool' (n' Quiet?????).
