There are no mounting holes for normal fans on the Accelero, and testing it with ghettomodded fans against other coolers which have proper mounting points would not be fair either since it's not designed to be used with standard fans. IN that case they would also have had to modify the other coolers...

Thanks, typing this using Chrome now. Based on my 30 seconds of experience with it i like it. Looks pretty simple, and having the tabs in the top bar is pretty neat. And it hasn't crashed yet... Though the text act slightly weird when i type this, adds empty space instead of letters. It's ...

The 7900GTX/GTO which probably has the best stock cooler of any card to date, was also very noisy at 100%. But 20-30% was plenty to cool it so it was pretty damn quiet. The fans on the HD4870 will never reach 100% in normal use, except for very short bursts now and then under full load. Which is ann...

I have the S1 rev.2 on my 4870, and im using the stock VRM / memory cooling plate and it fits fine. I removed the red aluminium plate from the stock cooler, it's just a few screws, and then mounted just that on the card and the S1 on top of that. Works well but definately needs a fan on the heatsink...

This would work nicely in my HTPC since it doesn't overlap the card much. Right now im using a bent accelero with a fan nearby, which is not optimal. The fin spacing on his Scythe looks plenty wide enough as the fins are pretty narrow. If theres 45 fins under a 100mm fan, its 2,22mm between them. Or...

Heat rises yes, but in a small confined space like a computer case even a slow fan is enough to move warm air downwards. Every case takes some configuring to get the most out of it, some are easier than others. And different cases suit different systems and configurations. This case is by no means p...

You can't just stick an accelero on a HD 4870 and run it passively. Just relying on case airflow is not a good idea, i jsut had my case open for a while while pondering fan configurations and iit smelled like something burning, and my finger is still sore from touching the heatsink. This was in idle...

As of this moment there are no aircoolers for the X2 cards. And i would not hold my breath waiting for one, so if you really want one of those cards then watercooling is pretty much your only option since you want it to be quiet. Two cards in Crossfire could be aircooled however. I have no idea how ...

I would say ThinkPad. I have an R61 with T7100 cpu and even though the fan does cycle, it spins slowly when it does spin and it isnt "jumpstarted" so you have to concentrate if you want to notice it really. Obviously the fan ramps up a bit under heavy load on full power, but it never gets noisy per ...

There are big e-tailers in Europe like there is in the US of A, but none as big as the biggest over there. And then thereäs the issue of a crapload of different languages spoken in Europe. If oyu are going to use it for a HTPC, definately LCD. As mentioned above plasmas still suffer from burn-in, though not as bad as they used to. And they draw more power and usually have fans. And the black levels on LCDs have become much beter, and should become even more so when LED backlights beco...

The US is a much bigger market and the retailers are much bigger companies, so they buy much larger quantities of products, thus getting a cheaper price and thus are able to sell them for less and still get good profits because of the larger amount of product sold. It's very likely that there's dust accumulated inside the system, which does not help heat transfer and so would lead to higher temps. If you can't open the system, you could try carefully blowing some of the dust away with pressurised air. I can't really think of any other reason for this than dust.

It's perfect for my system. I have an S1 in it now, i had to bend it pretty severely to fit in my HTPC case and it still fits just barely. Hardly one millimeter of clearance to the top of the case. Also i have to use a 120mm fan on it anyway, so it takes up two extra slots. The HR03 wont work in my ...

But the background noise is higher in my current apartment than the house i used to live in when i got the SIlverStone. If you are goi...

That's basically the same thing as just using the stock coolers VRM / Memory cooling plate, except it owuld look nicer. I assume it's not removable on the stock nVidia heatsink? You can easily separate it form the rest of the cooler on the 4870, it's just a few screws. Though if Zalman did make that...
