Re: Advice on Noisy, Overheating Shuttle PC
Does the 0x116 error seem consistent with either GPU overheating or lack of PSU power? Sounds like a GPU problem. See http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/12/troubleshooting-0x116-videotdrerror.html . Do you notice if it hangs right before crashing? (And is it only crashing on video playback?) You m...

Re: SilverStone Fortress FT02 Revisited
It's nice to talk about this... but with the behemoths coming out currently, it seems like that money is better spent on a larger monitor that makes better use of the video than on a video card that already over muscles any but the largest screens. I'm actually hoping that the new iPad will acceler...

I'm not sure why you bring up this example. The US Treasury doesn't change the amount of money it prints to deal with the deficits in the budget. Most other countries don't either. (Zimbabwe lacked this self-restraint, which was one of the causes of the recent hyperinflation.) Given that I'm skepti...

Re: Please don't put another Moron in the White House
When I was in college and took a course in Taxation (accounting course), on the first day the professor said that federal taxes are not used to raise money, since the US has printing presses for that. I'm not sure why you bring up this example. The US Treasury doesn't change the amount of money it ...

Obama has done (or not done) a lot of things while in office that I disapprove of. Still, my best guess for what a McCain/Palin administration would have been like is far worse. Same for Romney/Paul/Gingrich/etc. I have no objections to criticizing Obama's failures to deal with Wall St. or the BP oi...

Also, micro-ATX motherboards are compatible with full-ATX cases, so you shouldn't have any problem finding something that will meet your needs :) Unless OP's trying to fit it in a mITX case, that is. ;) Need to run a future full-size GPU. Not sure what you mean by this. If you need a GPU for gaming...

Re: CPU cooler for a Fractal Design Define Mini?
I recommend the Thermalright MR-02 Macho. It's the same price as the Mugen 3 and the difference in performance is almost negligible, if you already bought the Mugen you should keep it. I had Scythe coolers in the past and didn't like the mounting mechanism much, Thermalright always worked perfectly...

Re: CPU cooler for a Fractal Design Define Mini?
Sure, I'm using an Asus P8P67-m board (Rev. B3, though I doubt that affects placement in any way). EDIT: Some info from the Fractal Rep: We have now updated our specification to saying that the Define Mini officially supports tower coolers with 160mm height. We had 165mm before, but it will then con...

Re: CPU cooler for a Fractal Design Define Mini?
I have a Scythe Mugen 2 (I think the Mugen 3 has similar dimensions) in a Define Mini. It works fine, and doesn't touch the foam on the side. (though depending on where your motherboard has the CPU socket, you might need to remove the extra foam that covers the side vent)

Why would you not buy something listed on the chart? If you don't, you really don't know what you are buying. Because other products might be good (enough) too and cost less. For example, I recently bought a Be Quiet 80+ Gold PSU not on that list and I'm very happy with it. While I can certainly un...

I think most of the economic loss is attributed to communications (and other) satellites going down. I think, here on Earth, we are mostly protected. As andymcca said, if the radiation is strong enough to mess with our boxes, I think we have other things to worry about than the integrity of our data.

AFAIK, no one is exactly sure what causes the BSOD issues associated with the (newer) sandforce controllers, which has been part of the problem with trying to fix it. I've also read a few isolated comments that people are having issues with the new (Oct 2011) firmware from OCZ, which is why I haven'...

Re: Ghosting Screen, Any suggestions
You can check the frequency of the VGA output from your computer. It's possible that your new computer/graphics card isn't detecting the specs of the LCD correctly, and is outputting at a weird frequency that your 40" lcd doesn't support well.

4. Would it be okay to replace the fan on the cooler with a Scythe slip stream? Or should I replace it with something else? The fan that came with your CPU cooler will work great for you when properly installed. Unless they swapped out the default fan that comes with the Mugen-3 with something else...

No. Not at all, Homeopathy is NO BETTER THAN A PLACEBO, so all you are giving them is a drop of water or a sugar pill with a label on it that makes it seem like the real thing, but anyone with a sense at all always reads the label, and looks it up in a book or the internet, and then realises that t...

Scaling is indeed a non-issue as long as you use a PC as a source, the graphics card is often just as capable of doing this task as the in-monitor scaler. For xbox/ps3 etc its more complicated, and certainly something to keep in mind if you live in for example a dorm and dont have a TV :) I can att...

Is there any way to calculate the total sound pressure of a system if you know the sound pressure of the parts within? In theory, if you had a precise physical model, yes. In practice, the numbers from parts manufacturers are measured in different configurations and under different ambient conditio...

How about just the fact that the poor tend to have lower IQs as well as older computers and older software? (and perhaps no internet connection to update even)
