If the fan runs twice as fast when it's in the closet, then the closet is obviously overheating your computer due to lack of fresh air. If your computer's so loud you have to put it in a closet to cut the noise, then your computer's obviously too loud. You need to quiet your computer so you can take...

Please let me know how did you manage mounting the cooler. Which one should be easier : Zalman, Katana or SI-97 ? Ok, got a chance to work on this last night. I attached both the Thermalright SI-97 and the Scythe Katana Cu to a Socket A system with no motherboard holes- I used the standard Socket A...

Re: Scythe's new, bigger Katana HSF with 100mm fan
Odd: the cooling fins are not "squared up" on the heat-pipes, but slant. Supposed to direct airflow to the VRM area, for people who think tower-style heatsinks will cause their mobos to overheat. You could also orient it towards the Northbridge, RAM, or put the fan on the low side and let the fins ...

Thanks to SPCR for a review I've been wanting to see, I've been curious about this HS for a while now. Would've liked to see it compared directly to the recently reviewed Big Typhoon. If the 128's primary advantage is it's form factor, then it makes sense to compare performance and dimensions agains...

If the problem is the lack of mounting holes, the Thermalright SI-97 and the Scythe Katana (and the Katana Cu) can be mounted with just the standard clip- no mounting holes needed. I have a 97 here (not installed yet), and I can't imagine how any motherboard could have a problem with it- the base is...

Looking at the pictures with the fans installed......What a convoluted airflow setup. Just what will the rear case opening be doing? There doesn't look to be enough room for an internal case fan. If you mounted the rear fan outside the case, blowing outward or inward, you would upset the airflow of...

On another note, most of the recommended PSU are 300W+, which is more than I need. It seems that the efficiency of PSUs are at 20% max power, and most PSUs start becoming less efficient at low powers (and full load). So a 550W supply will be less efficient, not to mention more expensive to buy. In ...

Another thing you can do, that i forgot to tell you before. Is that after cutting out those grilles. The edges may not look very pretty. Tip: Get some "U" shaped rubber, window or door isolation and glue this to the edge of the fan hole. Just make sure you stretch the isolation strip enough. So it ...

Greetings, Back on topic: it will be interesting to compare the Big Typhoon with the SI-120 (6 heatpipes vs 5?) and similar layouts and size. It may come down to the qualities of the mounting brackets and the contact surface? I thought Termalright hand phased out the SI-120 in favor of the SI-128? ...

I can vouch for the Dell in this article: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article21-page1.html I just worked on one for a family member, and I was struck by how incredibly quiet it was. The only real noise came from a crappy hard drive. If you can find one of these, or a current model Optiplex that us...

Pointless? The whole point is, you won't have to stuff it in a case. You could put it anywhere- inside your keyboard, maybe. Even it this particular size doesn't "catch on", it's one more step along the road to that "computer on a chip" you were talking about. Then they start chiping our brains, I g...

Re: well, more specifically
if you take a look at the image I included in my original message, I wonder how swapping out the heat pipes for a copper rod that is attached to the side mounted heatsinks would perform - that's the example I had in mind I'm pretty sure that if a plain old copper rod moved heat better than a much m...

I just got an SFF21F in the mail from Jab-Tech yesterday. Haven't even had a chance to take it out of the box yet, but I'm hoping to quiet a noisy PSU with it. According to the review @ http://www.silentpcreview.com/article695-page5.html#sflex , the high speed "F" version is still plenty quiet at 5-...

Just a stab in the dark, but the buzzing problem just sounds so familiar: I had a persistent buzzing problem that was tied to HD activity in an old system. I finally determined that my buzz was not coming from the drive, PSU, or mobo, but the PC speaker! Does your case or mobo have an integrated spe...

I'd prefer a 4-slot HD cage in both the upper and lower chamber. Why on earth do they have a 2-slot cage in the upper chamber? They both take up the same space, but instead Antec's building and installing two separate units- one of which is clearly inferior to the other. I don't get it- it ought to ...
