If the fan runs twice as fast when it's in the closet, then the closet is obviously overheating your computer due to lack of fresh air. If your computer's so loud you have to put it in a closet to cut the noise, then your computer's obviously too loud. You need to quiet your computer so you can take...

Please let me know how did you manage mounting the cooler. Which one should be easier : Zalman, Katana or SI-97 ? Ok, got a chance to work on this last night. I attached both the Thermalright SI-97 and the Scythe Katana Cu to a Socket A system with no motherboard holes- I used the standard Socket A...

Both my Athlon XP systems were hole-less, which really limited my options. But it looks like your mobo has the 4 mounting holes around the CPU socket, so your options are relatively open for commercial aftermarket heatsinks, or attaching a homebrew item if you're up for it.

UPS says it's not arriving until tomorrow. Today was my day off, I probably won't get to work on this until next week now.

Re: Scythe's new, bigger Katana HSF with 100mm fan

Odd: the cooling fins are not "squared up" on the heat-pipes, but slant. Supposed to direct airflow to the VRM area, for people who think tower-style heatsinks will cause their mobos to overheat. You could also orient it towards the Northbridge, RAM, or put the fan on the low side and let the fins ...

Thanks to SPCR for a review I've been wanting to see, I've been curious about this HS for a while now. Would've liked to see it compared directly to the recently reviewed Big Typhoon. If the 128's primary advantage is it's form factor, then it makes sense to compare performance and dimensions agains...

If the problem is the lack of mounting holes, the Thermalright SI-97 and the Scythe Katana (and the Katana Cu) can be mounted with just the standard clip- no mounting holes needed. I have a 97 here (not installed yet), and I can't imagine how any motherboard could have a problem with it- the base is...

Looking at the pictures with the fans installed......What a convoluted airflow setup. Just what will the rear case opening be doing? There doesn't look to be enough room for an internal case fan. If you mounted the rear fan outside the case, blowing outward or inward, you would upset the airflow of...

On another note, most of the recommended PSU are 300W+, which is more than I need. It seems that the efficiency of PSUs are at 20% max power, and most PSUs start becoming less efficient at low powers (and full load). So a 550W supply will be less efficient, not to mention more expensive to buy. In ...

I'd prefer a 4-slot HD cage in both the upper and lower chamber. Why on earth do they have a 2-slot cage in the upper chamber? They both take up the same space, but instead Antec's building and installing two separate units- one of which is clearly inferior to the other. I don't get it- it ought to ...
