Re: WC gaming rig, noise?
Has there ever been a test where someone has built two identical rigs, one full loop and one on quietest air? Depends on the pump. I had a watercooling setup once with a decoupled (i.e. not screwed to the case) Eheim 1046 aquarium pump, which is the basis for some modern watercooling pumps like the...

Look at the Streacom FC8 EVO. Not much bigger than the M350 but with passive cooling in mind.

Re: Best Website for Silent Computing Information
what REALLY stumps me is the case, the case fans, CPU cooler, power supply. Power supply: - Corsair RM450 - Seasonic X-560 - Enermax Platimax 500 Case fans: I find Noctua ridiculously overpriced. Scythe is my recommendation. Which ones depends on the case you'll use: some cases have 140mm fans, oth...

Re: Want to help Corsair build the [quietest] case ever?
I know it's an old topic, but:
- Standard case layout.
- Two 180/200mm intake fans in the bottom
- PSU and standard 120/140mm rear fan for exhaust
- No other openings in the case
All that's needed.
BTW, is it true that Silverstone has a patent on rotated mainboard designs? What the f***?!?!

No. But cases aren't rocket science. The Ecco has the same style side vents that have contraint air intake on numerous other cases.quest_for_silence wrote:tim851 wrote:This one will be no better.Mr Spocko wrote:Never been too happy with the Antec for cooling.

Re: Ecco 250 Micro ATX Case with sound proofing installed
Never been too happy with the Antec for cooling. This one will be no better. The two front fans draw air from the side vents, which are small and restrictive. And there's not even the option of a bottom fan - something that really annoys me in most cases. Especially with mATX in the traditional lay...

Re: Crash course in Intel processors?
May I ask what you need three FirePros for? The Socket 2011-platform is a bit outdated. It supposed to be Intel's high-end line, but they haven't updated the chipset in quite a while and the CPUs are one generation behind. (Ivy Bridge-E instead of the newer Haswell). In my opinion, the platform is j...

Actually, surprisingly the cooler I am using is a Corsair H60 self-contained water cooler I thought you didn't trust watercooling? which hits 60c and above as soon as I load up a game. AMD is presently a bad choice for gaming. Intel has dominated gaming benchmarks for years. All while being quite a bit more energy efficient. AMD has inferior per-core-performance and has been compensating that by giving you "more cores per dollar". While that's nice and dandy, you'll need software ...

Re: Best Heatsink, cost not a consideration?
What is it you want to achieve? Maximum cooling? Maximum quietness? For maximum cooling, there are hundreds of websites out there testing this. You'll probably end up with an AIO watercooler. Leaks haven't really been an issue since PC watercooling got out of it's duct-tapey infancy about 10 years a...

The Macho is the untouchable king of low airflow. But is it quiet ? The Macho comes with a fan that is reputed to be quiet. However, I don't think you'll even need that one. The heatsink is build in such a way that it rests only a few mm in front of the rear exhaust fan and the airflow of that shou...

Re: New build advice sought
Unless you're using ECC memory I see no need for your choice of mainboard and CPU. You can save quite a bit of money by going with a desktop CPU (Ivy Bridge or Haswell) and mainboard. All of Intel's quad-cores should support VT-d. For the cooler, I'd definitely go for the Thermalright HR-02 Macho. T...

Re: New Mac Pro - ~10"H x ~7" diameter black cylinder
I can't imagine this being a quiet machine. No matter what type of heatsink they use, at the end, you have two FirePros and one 12-core Xeon dumping their heat in the case. Apple will probably mitigate some of this by using low power chips. Nonetheless, when stressed, I'd reckon more than 100 watts ...

Re: Would PS4/XB1 be better w/Haswell over AMD?
1) Haswell wasn't available when MS and Sony spec'ed the consoles. 2) Intel is too expensive. Rumors around the industry (mostly from nVidia) claim pretty low profit margins for AMD and it's highly doubtful Intel would even bother. This generation of consoles seems to be aiming to be profitable from...

Re: Anybody do more than a cursory comparison of 720p vs. 10
Are there still non-1080p TVs around? Is that really a buying option?
As far as I'm aware, nobody has been making quality panels with less than 1080p for 2-3 years. Since 2012, even budget TVs and the cheapest 120$ 23" PC monitors have 1080p.
So, I don't think there is much to talk about

Correct, though the best way to test a new OC is still through a gaming session. Exactly. Furmark is not even 'worst case' or such. My GTX 670 with ghetto mod Accelero S1 (had to bend the rear part to fit it in the case) and a Scythe Gentle Typhoon does not pass Furmark. It always reaches >95°C, ev...

Is the Macho that expensive in Italy? The Macho Rev. A currently sells for under 40 Euros in Germany. Rev.A is the same old Macho with an updated fan, that is the same fan as before but in black-and-white and not green. The original Macho has since skyrocketed in price because nobody really has it i...

Cost of wages will be the largest part and this goes hand in hand with the previously suggested idea of the military as state funded jobs. heatpipes don't function as well when moving heat in the same direction as gravity (ie, when the heat source is higher than the heat-dissipating elements) Erm, that is the situation in STANDARD ATX cases. From my (limited) experience Seasonic does have more of a coil whine problem than Enermax or Silverstone. Of the 5-6 Seasonics I have build into systems, all but 1 whined. And if you look through the web, of brand name PSUs, they are the most frequently complained about.

According to your signature you currently have an 8800 GTS, so the 9600 GT should be a slight improvement performance-wise, though I don't think it will matter much at all.
It depends on how cheap the 9600GT is.

ntegrated graphics may not be quite enough for what you're doing. Integrated graphics has advanced quite a bit over the past couple years, but depending on what you're doing, you may find you need a little more oomph. If you go for a lower end, dedicated card, you may find it will run more efficien...

Re: Best choice for Micro ATX gaming system?
Silverstone has introduced the SG10 at CES. Should be out soon.
It is essentially the prohibitively ugly SG09 with a better looking front. The SG09 is the smallest Micro-ATX case that can take a full length graphics card, CPU-cooler of 16cm and ATX-PSU.
