Re: 120hz monitors and gaming
By constant pulsating you mean flickering caused by insufficient refresh rate on a CRT display? Good CRTs allowed high refresh rates that practically eliminated flicker. However there were plenty of improperly configured ones around flickering like mad and thus unusable. I'm glad that is over with C...

Re: Lifespan of fans? (nexus)
Bah, no point to do a new build if the computer is otherwise doing what it needs to do. My computer is a bit over 2.5 years old now and it's FLYING.
Just replace the fans.

Re: Zalman CPU & VGA Power Consumption Meter
I would rather put that money towards a clamp meter. Can anyone figure out a valid use case besides reviews such that it makes sense to invest in this rather than just an AC power meter for the whole system?

Re: 120hz monitors and gaming
edit: In my experience vsync can never completely eliminate tearing in 60hz LCD monitors, just minimise it. It also can reduce frame rate alot, sometimes halving it completely. Screen tearing is a visual artifact in video where information from two or more different frames is shown in a display dev...

Re: 120hz monitors and gaming
I think there are many games where you could see more than 60fps, unless you only play crysis and the like. Now suppose your game can draw exactly 40fps. With a 60Hz monitor, two game frames would be shown per three monitor frames. So for example every other image twice and every other image once - ...

I would get the x460 out of those two choises. Do you actually think your system needs more power than 460 Watts???

I dont know how it is in Canada, but apparently 44% of smartphones sold during Q3 in the US were android devices.CA_Steve wrote:This sorta assumes that Mike C and crew have access to an Android phone. What a PITA for small website developers (phones - not you ).

serious problem with (amazon) ads using android browser
Amazon ads on the site, even though displaying correctly, have their clickable area extend right and down infinitely on android browser. This means that when I tap any link, often I hit the Amazon ad instead.
This is extremely annoying. I need it fixed. Can't use the site on my phone like this.

I'm simply going to say that I game and I want high fps in high resolution and high detail. But when I am not playing I really want complete silence! And when I am playing, while its true that the game audio drowns out some PC noise, still the quieter the PC is the lower I can keep the audio volume ...

Re: CPU / Mobo stress tests (Prime95) and random errors
Any random error in those tests is a sign of unstable system. You should be able to run 24h+ without any errors and even then just lower your overclock by a notch to be certain that the system is stable. To make an analogy to high jumping, when you overclock, you are raising the bar. When it's low, ...

Manu lcd displays make noise when their backlight is not at maximum brightness. It is caused by the backlight power circuit. However it's not loud and there are silent models too. I don't know if this applies to led-backlit lcds at all? It is certainly not limited to laptops! But as I said, it is no...
