hey guys. i just got my zm80a-hp from frys electronics. i have a problem. i believe heatsink is working fine (passed 3dmark se). however, i'm getting jumbled display (weird blocks, etc.) in the boot up window and in the windows XP loading screen. i believe anything below 640x480 resolution gives me ...

hey mikec, should i buy a soldering iron if i intend to modify the fan in the zalman psu? just a simple question. i'm going to do it right after i get the psu. so as i understand it, #1 open the psu with simple screw drivers (right?) #2 take out the fan. (i was going to clip the wires and wrap the e...

well okay can i ask the same question with a slightly more info? my point is this: are we using ALL the capacity of a heatsink? what i mean is, if we put on another 70w of heat dissipation onto the heatsink, can it handle the extra 70w? I think such heatsink like SLK-800 or larger will be able to ha...

you're talking about the cube. it's infamous for being very unstable. all cube users hate it unless you only use it for 5min at a time to e-mail people and think they're 'cute'. personally, i think you need an active cooling design to cool anything that'll dissipate more than 20w of heat. besides at...

what's a.r.? anyway here are my inputs. if you can wait a month or so, wait for seagate v. they're quiet, and very comparable performance-wise to most drives. my point is this. say you get the WD drives, sandwich them, and still think they're loud, you now know you should've gotten the seagate drive...

voltage configuration of 3pin
To run my panaflo at 5v, do I have to use the 4pin power adapter?
is there any way I can get 5v just from arranging the wires on 3pin tail?

i don't know how much do those thermo controlled fans move, but my guess will be more than panaflo @ 5v. i'm getting the panaflo L1a fans soon, and getting the 12v/5v voltage adapter from the zalman psu (it comes with it right?) so i can tell you for sure whether that setup would work. i think the b...

good points. i'll try the alarm clock method and evaluate my experiment again. it's never going to be a perfect vacuum with my method due to the lag time between getting the vacuum hose off and putting the cap on. ah wells... it was fun while it lasted... at least for me. i plan to get the aluminum ...

I'm using Zalman CNPS6000-CU currently with my 1ghz FC-PGA2 CPU. It should have more heat dissipation than yours. just as comparison, CNPS6000-CU has 2600-2900cm^2 of surface area. I can't find the surface area of Slk-800, maybe you can figure it out for us. and I'm using Zalman's 92mm fan rotating ...

hey guys, i was just wondering, why don't we use the fan on the psu's as intake rather than exhaust? since we're all running (mostly) passive cooling with minimal air flow, our case temperature should be pretty high, most certainly higher than the normal outside temperatures. we can duct the hot air...

mm... would i be okay with using a fan with a thermo sensor then? what would you say would be the top end of psu temp is for good reliability? i'm keeping p3 just for reliability so, if psu would like to give out on me, that would defeat the whole purpose of trying to keep a p3. i was thinking papst...

do hard drives work in a vacuum?
i've decided i'm going to suspend the hard drive in a vacuum. the drive will be in a aluminum tray suspended by heavy duty rubber bands in a plastic vacuum chamber. i'm going to rely on convection alone for heat transfer, which would seem to work okay due to the passive aluminum tray/heatsink. only ...

Best fan to replace the stock fan on Zalman 300a?
Hello, I'm getting Zalman 300w ps soon. People say after I change the fan it's the quietest ps one can get, due to its big heatsink. So now the question becomes, which fan should I use? I think I narrowed down my selection to the Papst 12db version with thermo sensor. any other recommendations? Wher...

to use zm-80, you need to have two holes around the GPU on the PCB board of your gf3 card. i'm getting one soon (as soon as sharka has them back on the shelves as of the 11th as they said), and i'll post its review as soon as I get it. (if you can wait). you may also look into zm-17u. it may be a ch...

the QUESTEST 80mm FAN?
hey guys, i think it'll be helpful to many if we make a consensus on what's the quietest fan we have if we run it at low volts (5v) for 'virtual silence'. okay well, after reviewing numerous sites, i have a few contenders in no particular order. 1. Enermax, UC-001B-TC 2. Panaflo FBA08A12L (apparentl...
