If there is a weakness in the solder joints - Yes it can . If the board is properly made it should not . I run an XP90c on my A64 and have had no such issues , but I have seen it on a Shuttle SN45g when the cooler (proprietry heatpipe cooler calledan ICE ) was clamped down tight the machine would no...

They are actually not a bad cooler , they were just a bit fiddly to mount on a socket 478 .
I had one passively cooling a P4 3.2 northy on a P4P800 board - it should cool your chip with just the rear case fan , If the socket is the right way around.

Try plugging the fanmate into an adaptor off one of the PSU. molex plugs.
That way you have a clean 12v to start with .

Be careful 5900 ultras run way hot - A Zalman zm80 -d will not cool one without a fan . So I very much doubt that that one would . VF-700 cu does though , but is not fanless .

It's a pity because none of their other coolers are any good to me because they use two
slots and I mostly use SFF machines (although I have a couple of full size machines) .
This cooler was looking pretty good.

RMA is obviously a lot easier in the US than in Australia .
Certain posters in this forum should remember that not everybody lives in the US or Canada , and things
become proportionately more complex with the increase in distance .
