Re: Need a Good 3TB Drive

Hi, another tool to check the SMART status of your drive is Crystal Disk Info USB2 tops out at ~30MB/sec no matter how good the source/destination drives are. eSATA basically extends the SATA interface outside of the case to an external drive. High-end motherboards often have eSATA on the back panel...

Re: Anyone using a MSI 8600GT Silent edition 256MB PCIe GC?

Hi, you could get a 512MB Geforce 210, eg Asus from Scan. I think that's a double width heatsink, there is also an Evga card with lower clocks and single slot heatsink for a ~£1 more. Performance wise these will be lower than your 9600, but with some more modern features, especially in video playbac...

Re: Corsair H100 or NH-D14 for i7-3930k setup?

Hi, I have a NH-C14 on i7-2600k @ 4.5GHz and struggle to get enough cooling. This is with 4 cores, you're going to have 6 cores... I would suggest the bigger the better as far as possible. Probably NH-D14 or new Silver Arrow SB-E the way to go for air coolers, especially the Silver Arrow as it's eno...

Re: Reconciling soft-mounting and fan grills?

Hi, I just realised what you're asking. Yes it works easily, use the short/case side of the soft screw through the grill and case so the grill is held tight to the case and the long fan side just in the fan as normal. There will be a spacer on the screw between the fan and case that ensures the soft...

Re: Which quiet mid-profile heatsink?

SilverStone Nitrogon NT06-E 82mm without fan so in 130mm you plenty of room for the heatsink and fan and breathing space above the fan. With 5 heatpipes should be ample for 2500k (as long as not overclocking much) and not very expensive either, unlike the huge NH-C14. Not sure about memory clearanc...

Re: Low airflor top-down CPU heatsink

My two pennies worth: The proposed G850 CPU is very easy to cool. Even quad core 3.4GHz i5-2500(k) isn't a big deal, easily handled by 92mm fan tower in my experience. In fact Anandtech has a G850 consuming 78w under load. For the whole system! Probably only 30~40w in the CPU My 2600k consumes 60~65...

Hey, no problem. Ref the fan speed noise level I guess yours isn't dissimilar, 120mm@950rpm ~ 92mm@1200rpm. Although this was with my drive screwed in to the case, even then the noise wasn't unpleasant in nature. Can you suspend your drive if it isn't already? If no 5.25 bays can you put it sideways...

Baked! - or the dangers of software fan control

My PC has the fans controlled by Speedfan to maintain the CPU temp under 80°C. Trouble is it's been tending to crash occasionally on me... PC spends a lot of it's time running Folding@home on the CPU and GPU, i.e. 100% load on both. Not as bad as Prime 95 + Furmark but not far off. Yesterday I notic...

Hi, ok it's now midnight ish in rural Gloucestershire and I can't really hear any ambient noise. Hi, I have one of these drives and not noticed any noise from it at all.... but it's in Scythe Quiet Drive and sitting on foam and not even inside the case(!) so it's very well isolated. Re: CPU Cooler for a Moncaso 320 HTPC? What to queeze in?

Hi, I suspect the G620 CPU you want to cool to be a cool running beast and won't need much of a cooler. If you just need it to be quiet at idle / modest load then the stock cooler maybe quiet enough! Failing that you could just "replace" the fan on the stock cooler. I did this for a friend with E520...

Hi, as I understand it you already have the Antec 300 case so... It looks to me like the airflow of the case is already good and yes it probably doesn't have muc...

I've noticed DVI to VGA adaptors can reduce signal quality. Will be worse the higher the screen resolution. Hi, I've tried both a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 and Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 on an i7-2600k. They are both capable of cooling it quietly, even under full load. Unless you over-clock the CPU, then you need a massive tower cooler, not to mention a bigger, higher air-flow case, but as you have a HTPC cas...

My Dad's computer has a Hyper TX3 on a Q9400, over-clocked to 3GHz too. It's pretty cool chip so this cooler is ample and the stock fan isn't too bad when spun right down on PWM, to about 700~800rpm.
