Very nice reading.

I wonder if the XP-120 would have performed better had it ducted cool air through a side vent like the CAG on the SLK3000B. Would have been not a pretty mod to the case however.

There are several threads in the forum with good sound discriptions of drives. It's a bit tedious to find them, but it'll be worth your time.

Hallo, All performance aspects set aside, it may just be a matter of preference, but I find managing the cables of SATA drives a big plus as opposed to PATA drives. BTW, in my system I have a Seagate 7200.7 120GB SATA HDD. No noticable whine, but the seeks are just barely tolerable. I recently put t...

Hello all, Not taking into account new issues which may arise from the rear fan (noise, internal airflow), at least one problem should be solved. There have been numerous complaints in the SPCR forums about heat escaping the rear of the S12 and thereby considerably heating up the area between the PS...

Congratulations! But I ditto that with the cable. Take your time to rework the cable - it's a good feeling afterwords to look at the results. Careful though, cable work can get as addicting as quietness :-)

Tricool on XP-120?

Hello all,

I'm building a system with used parts for a friend. Going to put a XP-120 on a P4 2.66. Am thinking about using a spare Antec Tricool at low to cool it.

Anybody ever put the Tricool on the XP-120? Any thoughts?

Thanks

The processor is a bit trickier; I'm pretty sure your MSI motherboard doesn't allow undervolting, so not as many ways to reduce its heat output. jaganath is right here. Precotts are one of the hotter CPUs around. But your stock intel cooler is also very loud. You may want to think about replacing i...

I think that word "passive", is thrown around too much. About all it means on SPCR is "my CPU heatsink did not come with a fan." Obviously any/all of these so-called passive heatsinks, require air movement provided by a fan. So what if the fan is 3" from the heatsink......that heatsink still requir...

Hello oscar3d, 750 RPMs for a 120mm fan still pulls quite a bit of air. The lower the RPMs the lower the noise. The S12 has a very good fan controller that ramps up only when needed. At idle, my S12 430W is around 760 RPMs and at 100% load at around 800 RPMs. Next to the HDD, it's the loudest compon...
