I got an Akasa amber fan with my CPU cooler (EVO-120) and it's the worst 120mm fan I've ever heard. Maybe I got a defective unit, but it was unbearably loud. I hope yours is better.
Also, how's the Kama Bay in the Solo? Does it fit flush? Do you happen to have a pic of the front of the case?

Hmmm. I'm sure it's effective in terms of dampening, but your 1000RPM fans will undoubtedly be noisier than a 4200RPM notebook drive so your enclosure doesnt' seem to serve much of a purpose. Notebook drives can take more thermal punishment than 3.5" drives, but you're covering it in cloth... I don'...

Uhm, I don't think you've done enough research. You're planning to use a full size ATX motherboard in a uATX case. Once you've found a suitable AM2 motherboard (the Asus M2A-VM fits), you'll need to find a S939 to AM2 converter before you can even install it. I'm not sure how you'd go about acquirin...

I had a 74GB Raptor in a Scythe enclosure resting on a piece of foam on the bottom of my case for a while, it might be acceptable for you. As long as you don't hard mount the Quiet Drive, I think you'll be ok with the noise level. As mentioned before the Raptors all idle really quietly, and it's onl...

Probably because the fans are thermally controlled, and you don't want someone to install a 500RPM fan when a 1600RPM one is needed. With CPUs and GPUs you can monitor how effective your 'custom' cooling solution is, not so with PSUs. If you're running inadequate cooling for your PSU, and it overhea...

The 2.5" drives are so thin, there'll be a lot of space above them inside the 3.5" enclosure. You'll need to figure out a way to transport their heat to the outside of the enclosure. Maybe a gelpack. They'll physically fit, I'm sure, but it won't be a very elegant solution. I think you're better off...

Thanks for the info. I was wondering why the CONSUMER MOBI 3000 was more expensive than the PRO MSD 6000 since their specs are identical. The answer I received from the person selling them was that the MOBI had slightly better RAID compatiblity and newer firmware revisions. Hardly worth $125. Unfort...

http://www.nextlevelhardware.com/storage/mobi/ http://www.neostore.com/ssd/mtron/images/full/MSD-SATA3025-032_front.jpg I'm giving some serious thought to buying one of these. $725 for 32GB of silent, super fast storage goodness. With the ridiculously cheap $US it almost seems like a bargain. Almost.

The 300 is NICE. Clean design, great airflow and nothing fancy. Expected retail price of $60? SOLD. Why anyone would buy the 1200 is beyond me. Any word on when it'll be available? M-P180... ehh... it looks acceptable in white, for some reason. I like the dual 5.25" chambers in the bottom. Two enclo...

Back to school for you.
First you say something clearly provacatively stupid, and then you say you're not trying to start an argument. That's like me calling you an idiot, but softening the blow with a "no offense".

That case looks excellent! Did you import it from Australia/Japan? Much nicer than the Fusion black, and no VFD/IR issues. Does it match the MFP51's color? You're pretty much building the perfect HTPC, imo. I might copy your build as soon as the NSK2480B is available in Europe. Give us an update on ...

Rhynri, I don't want to reply to every one of your points as it seems futile, but the stock cooling arrangement of your 7950GX2 is LOUD. I've had the exact same cooling on a 7900GS (AGP) and sold the card because no aftermarket cooling solutions would fit. If you consider that a quiet GPU cooling so...

A google search shows that Phonophobia is most commonly called "hypersensitivity to sound" - I am not a doctor and make no pretense to be such. Please troll elsewhere, sir. A picture says a thousand words. :D Also, as long as you're satisfied with your build then that's the most important thing, but... your computer can't possibly be anywhere near silent (or even tolerably quiet) with 5 Raptors, a bunch of 1200RPM fans and the stock cooling fan on a 7950GX2. I also don...

Second; On the SoundGraph site they have listed an OEM section which contains the perfect iMON VFD without the knob (or even better LCD displays), but I have yet to find a retailer that sells them. Are they integrator only parts, or are there firms out there that sell them separately? If you're ref...

Thanks for your reply alilianstrom! The only caveat - If I try to compress a HD recording to DiVX the 500 rpm fans do not move enough air to keep the system cool with both cores running at 100% for a couple of hours. Temps rise real quick Do you experience any isntability, or are you simply not comf...
