Well I can't get an RPM reading from either of my Nexus 120mm's at all. I've plugged the 3 pin plug (that has all the wires connected) direct to my mobo headers and the readings (both in the BIOS and MBM) read 0 rpm. I haven't actually used my RPM readings for ages, as I have been using Panaflos unt...

Well they're trying I guess.... :? But tell me why they have the two upper exhaust fans right above the intake opening? A large amount of airflow bypasses everything, and goes into and out of the case without cooling anything.....just making more noise. A non-removable right side panel ? A left sid...

Great review guys, wow your testing methodology continues to improve with the MP3 files and now the 3D spectrum analysis graphs. I don't think anyone stumbling across this site for the first time could be in any doubt about the emphasis you place on the acoustic properties of the equipment you are r...

Quiet PCs can cost up to $500 more than their noisier counterparts And then he forgot the next half: ", but they don't have to with a bit of carefull planning." Yeah, I found that a bit objectionable too, as it rather misleading. Sure it can cost $500 more if you buy a Hush, but the premium Hush ch...

More PC silencing in mainstream press (in Oz)
This month's Atomic PC magazine (an Australian publication) has the first part of a 2 part article on how to make your PC quieter. I haven't read the whole article, just flicked through it in the newsagent (I'm too cheap to buy it  ) but it looks quite good. They've done some good research int...

Wow, that's quite an impressive feat, but I think his comments at the end are particularly telling: Will I recommend building this kind of case to anyone? No. Find out better way to quiet down your computer. If I don't open the door, temperature rises tremendously in the case, and you could really f...

My temps are: 122F (50C) CPU, 104F (40C) Case, 116F (47C) HDD. What do you think? Yep, your HDD temps are definitely are on the high side. After all, losing all your data is much worse (and probably more expensive) than blowing an overheated PSU/CPU. Open up some intake holes near the HDD. As long ...

I have a 3 year old AIW 9000 Pro 64MB which has served me well, it is a great all round card but I probably wouldn't get another one. Why? Mainly because if I want to upgrade my gaming graphics I have to replace my TV tuner/capture facilities too. Buying them separately is about the same cost or che...

I've done a similar mod to my FSP300-60PN - I've kept the Yate Loon fan but soft mounted it to the outside of the PSU, and attached additional heatsinks to the existing ones utilising the extra space inside the PSU. As the fan is now right up close to my Aerocool HT-101 I've disconnected it's own fa...

And is that a PWM fan controller below the floppy?) I actu...

Aluminium U channel is is cheaper and neater if you are thinking about attaching heatsinks to the sides of the drive (where they are the hottest) for a suspended set-up. If however you already have them attached to a normal hard drive cage with reasonable air flow, I don't see that adding additional...

Re: Heatsinks are too big!
What should I do? Erm..... get a different heatsink? Seriously, if it aint going to fit, try something else. If you want to duct the heat out of the case, get a tower heatsink like the Aerocool HT-101 (I'm assuming you've got a socket A mobo). It is nearly as effective as the SI-97 (according to th...

I've recently installed an Aerocool HT-101 on my socket A mobo (clips only). In spite of it's height it's not too heavy to risk damaging the mobo/CPU die. Mine's got a 7V Panaflo on it which keeps it around 44C at idle, more than cool enough. It is also helped by being directly in line with the 120m...

It's a great idea, and one that has been discussed here before, but has two problems that I can see: 1) exposes the inside of your PSU to objects such as paperclips, staples and liquids being accidentally dropped in, with potentially disastrous results! :? 2) will provide a direct path for the noise...

Any noise rating you get from a vendor will be pretty worthless, as noise is such a subjective thing and some vendors/manufacturers are renowned around here for their exaggerated claims of "quiet". For that reason there isn't much point extracting quietness benchmarks from them. I believe MikeC and ...

And there aren't many quiet specific vendors here in Oz. You could try contacting http://www.lownoisepc.com , based in Sydney. They mainly sell comp...
