Re: SPCR-inspired quiet gaming rig

Given how hot graphics cards can be, it should be a separate chamber for the slots as well.

Just to make sure it's the case airflow that's insufficient and there's nothing wrong with the card, have you tried running it with the case open, just for testing?

Re: alternatives, comments Samsung 840, WD Green 2TB, LG Blu

The 840 is a budget model with lower performance, shorter lifespan, and with more negative feedback on newegg than the old 830.

Pick an Intel 330 instead.

Asus is known for making quiet optical drives, that's all I know tho.

Re: Need a 120mm fan that I can turn off using BIOS controls

Maybe mount the card as it is, without the Zalman heatpipes? Or connect the 120 mm fan to the graphics card? The stock coolers works well fanless during 2D on new cards. Read this thread, it seems to be a matter of picking the right graphics card. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: 23-24" LCD Monitor - Help :)

Dell U2412M. I've had mine since January, incredible picture. It's 1920 x 1200, not 1920 x 1080, and I prefer the former. $40 more than P2412H at newegg. It does have the required 12 V output for the Soundbar. Mine is set at 25% brightness and I've never heard any noise from it. Lots of satisfied ow...

Given that people can shut off the fans during idle without Virtu, I don't think it will be an issue.

Re: AMD A10 in a shuttle XPC, can it be done?

Be prepared for some heavy modding, heat isn't the issue here. Many Shuttle cases are incompatible with the mini-ITX standard. Only do this if you really love the look of your Shuttle, otherwise it is completely impractical. The Silverstone SG05/SG06 is only slightly bigger than the Shuttle G5 case,...

Re: Which APU

TDP is a limit.

It depends on what you're going to do with it, but unless you let the APU run at full load for hours, I don't think you'd notice the difference in power consumption.

You can always lower the clock speed in the 5800K, but you can never unlock the locked 5700.

Re: videocards that can do 4 monitors?

There are cheaper cards that can do this, but it all depends on what your requirements are for resolution and gaming. Remember that you can use adapters between Displayport, HDMI and DVI, or just cables with different connectors in the ends. These cards have four outputs, but you're going to need a ...

Re: Windows 8: what do you think about it?

The Start button is gone, finally. Since I don't use a Happy Hacking keyboard that lacks a Windows key, I'm perfectly fine with that. Restart, Standby and Shutdown can be added the context menu, the desktop, the start screen, as a key combination, a sub menu in the task bar, and in the new Windows X...

Re: New PC Build - Almost Done

This system uses 317 W during gaming , and that's with a hot running, overclocked 3960X CPU and a 670 GTX. Your system will use about 250 W at most. Pick a 400 - 500 W quality PSU and you'll be fine, unless you're going to do some heavy overclocking. Here's my suggestion: http://www.newegg.com/Prod...

Re: Mummy wants a new computer

If you put all the spare cables right in front of the PSU (towards the front of the case) with cable ties, it won't restrict the airflow. Don't try to route the cables to somewhere else in the case like you do in bigger cases, because that will probably restrict the airflow. Even though you can remo...

Re: Mummy wants a new computer

I think a Seasonic G360 makes more sense here. It's less expensive (although it's not an issue here) and gives the compact Q11 some more airflow. I don't think the fan will make more noise than the CPU cooler. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1297-page5.html Butikker . Make sure she gets to choo...

AFAIK, I didn't have to modify BIOS, or, at least I don't think I did that, because the procedure had to be repeated after reinstalling Windows.

Not that I remember much, it's been a while since I last used it..

Thank you for the feedback. Things are a bit complicated since the choice of cooling affects what other parts I can use, just because I want a ridiculously small case. The fact that cheap water cooling pumps may generate more noise after several months is a deal breaker for me though. I've looked ar...

Help me decide: AXP-140 or Kühler 620?

I need a cooler for my ASRock Z77E-ITX, which I'm going to put in a custom built case. The AXP-140 was a solid choice for me until I bought it last week.. there's nothing wrong with it, but I figured out a different way to build the case using an Antec cooler instead that would make more sense.. Silverstone has rebranded FSP SFX PSU's, including the 450 W version.

Then we have the upcoming 80Plus Gold version with modular cables, but it's not made by FSP.
