Thanks for your help. I got this figured out. The Thermalright V1 needs to use the Medium sized hooks to install properly. I used the short ones. It wasn't seating properly. The big zalman wasn't tightened on all the way (something was obstructing the backplate). It's been re-installed, and re-seate...

Felger Carbon can be right, in the post above. It could be a measurement problem. So Ryan, tell us what motherboard and the utility you use to measure temps. Maybe someone around here know if there's a known problem with your motherboard or something. Mobo: ASRock 939dual-sataII Measurment: Speedfa...

I plugged a spare 3-pin fan into the second header on the motherboard (first one is a fanmate + thermalright V1) and temperatures were still the same. I pulled the whole thing out of the case, and idle went from 57 to 54. I reseated the heatsink, new thermal paste, and it dropped to 51. The GPU drop...

Thanks for the responses. From your description of your internal temps, I suspect you have case ventilation problems. Things to check: - Restrictive front intake and rear exhaust case grills. - Restrictive intake filter media. - Restrictive front case bezel. - Short-circuit air flow paths (Side and ...

Is this really right?

Ok. I haven't been in here for a long time. But now, I require your expertise. 1. I have an AMD Opteron 146 overclocked to 2.4 ghz, on 1.45 volts. At first, I was getting about 38 degrees idle. Then yesterday, it went all the way up to 60 idle. I re-seated it, and it went down to 57 idle. Is this in...

How to swap a new fan into the Zalman CNPS.

I think most of you know what the Zalman CNPS 7000/7700 series is. http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/8972/286406mb.jpg This badboy. It's an older design, but aged to perfection. Using the stock fan, pictured below, will get you a semi-silent cpu cooler that is extremely potent at cooling. http://img9...

Gah... AMD Stock cooling driving me insane!!

I have an Opteron 146. Very good processor, overclocks like no tomorow. The stock cooler keeps it very cool, but its loud as hell and drives me insane, even without my 120mm Silverstone turned to max (40 db, 110cfm on the highest, 800rpm on the lowest). I only have that, the silverstone, and a yate-...

Tri bladers look pretty loud, IMHO. I'd rather have a nice nexus Real Silent Fan though. The PC Power and cooling 510's have tri blader "Boat Prop" fans in them, and they are LOUD.

I like to cut small pieces of heatshrink, 10mm approx, and shrink them over the cables every 10 cm or so. Keeps the cables out of the way without being too stiff.

I highly suggest you swap out the water mixture for something with a LOT of anti-corrosion. The TT Rocket is Aluminum, the blocks are copper. After a while, the aluminum will corrode.

First: Cut off the grate. It's causing a lot of noise and reduced airflow. on the other side of the psu too.

Second: The Yate Loon d80sm12 is exactly what i have running in an FSP 300w. It's dead silent.

DFI NF4 ultra-D, SLi-dr, ultra-dr (not out yet). They have a loud fan over the chipset though, so you might wanna swap it out for the nice big zalman chipset passive hsf.

Those tests are only for half an hour. Over time though, vegemite (lol) and toothpaste will both degrade, and fail to perform. Arctic silver does not, as does any high quality thermal paste. If you let the pastes "burn in" for about 3 weeks, it will perform WAY better than any toothpaste or generic ...

Need you suspend at all? Maybe you could get away with using soft grommets instead of out-and-out suspension? If I'm understanding correctly these new notebook drives don't vibrate nearly to the same extent as the 3.5" versions do. The "soft" gromets just aren't soft enough to effectivly dampent th...
