Seagates been talking about pushing 2.5" enterprise drives for awhile, I'm guessing it'll be a few months after Savvio is actually released before they have anything really interesting for the mainstream. A PATA or at least a SATA version of the Savvio definately would be interesting if performance ...

Fanomatic is close, it'd be perfect if it could hook up to a motheboard USB header and use temp sensors built into the motherboard. Heck I might actually buy it if it did that! :D

If money was no object I'd pay an EE friend to design and build a custom fan controller. ;) Other than that I'm still looking.

Thermaltake liscenses/contracts out a lot of what they sell. Generally trading increasing flash and price, and decreasing performance or keeping similiar levels at best.

Just mount both and see what sound level is needed for comparable cpu temps. I'll be shocked if the zalman doesn't end up with a cooler cpu at the same noise levels though.

From my experiences, and what I've seen from others it varies by paste. But a thin layer as described by the AS instructions is almost always best, and nothing is always worst. As for reusing compound, it's something to be very careful about. There's both contamination as mentioned and the fact some...

It's been talked about before, and is interesting, but I'm not gonna spend that much. I would really consider it at $300-$350 but at over $1000 it's just a bit expensive!

That's a lot of stuff, I'd actually look at a quality 400 watt Zalman or Seasonic. Better to buy a little big than to cheap out on power supplies. As to which model exactly, look around here to see the pros and cons, Zalman's is the best unmodded though, IMO. As for heatsinks the Zalman 7000's are v...

These are not going to cause any problems like that, there's a magnet in each hard drive that is hundreds of times stronger, maybe thousands lol.

Aluminum cases aren't real popular here because they tend to deaden the sound a little less than a heavy duty steel case. If you get a good quality al case it's not a huge difference imo though (unless questing for true silence), especially if the other features are what you are looking for. Also al...

The 400A seems decent, much less revving up and down than Seasonic. It seems a tad louder when both are compared at their quietest, but in actual usage it's quieter for me, both light and heavy usage.

I think one of the screws mounting the fan could have touched a heatsink, it was a real pain finding screws the right size. Guess that's what I get for being so impatient. I'll try that when I get some spare time though. 8)

A good point about the ball bearing squeaks, but that is a feature I like. It's like an early warning feature, so you can get a replacement before it actually goes out. The Zalman ZM80-C is supposed to be compatible with the Parhelia, so if the heatsink mounting is the same that's a good way to go.
