Also, where can I get a good description of what PFC is?

Fortron ax450-pn... any good?

Fortron's Link http://www.home2000.net/client/fspgroupusacom/proddetail.asp?linenumber=200 NCIX's Special http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=15859&promoid=1047 Is this any good? I think it's relatively new and I can't find any reviews. Silence is my #1 priority right now. I'm thinking of cou...

thanks. all. Yeah the yate loon is nice... but either way I have to connect the fan directly to the motherboard, this 17$ Power supply ramps up the voltage as it pleases.

I'm going to cut off the grate. But, on the other side of the psu as well? That seems a little drastic.

PSU fanswap... suggestions *pics*

I'm swapping my PSU fan for use with a via c3 733Mhz system. The psu is rate at 450W (yeah right), I paid it 16.99$ Canadian. It's internal fan is a Yate Loon 8025M12 (12V 0.14a). I've decided to fanswap it with a Nexus 80mm real silent at 7 Volts. I'm wondering if firstly, this is enough cooling (c...

software to power down hdd's on demand?

Would be nice to not have to wait 3 minutes for windows to do it ( that's the shortest time allowed).

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Case suggestion

I want keep the case & psu under 100$, but I want 'em quiet. Can I get anything of quality (and silent, of course) for 100$? I'm planning on using this system with a barton 2800+ and a ATI 9800. Also, I'll eventually invest in a SATA HD, maybe put it in some kind of enclosure, I heard the seagates a...

Power Supply for New system - low power

~300 Watts should be enough - Athlon XP 2800+ & 1 Hard drive, with a moderate video card. I want something that will work safely if I swap the fan for a 7V Panaflo. Something around 50$ Canadian sounds nice. I had a 450W Noname, whose insides looked very poorly passively cooled (tiny aluminum fins) ...

Need something that will give me power comparable to a PSU

I'm in the process of experimenting with resistors, diodes and such to undervolt my fans - but right now my only option is to test stuff with a powered-on computer system, potentially putting its components at risk. I've also tried just using an AC adapter that gives DC 12V, but I'm not sure a PSU ...

P4 with no heatsink?

"If you attempt to operate a CPU without heatsink at all, recent AMD CPUs will usually be permanently damaged within seconds, unless special protection circuitry is available on the motherboard. P4 CPUs will run excessively slow without cooler." any truth to the 2nd part of this??? got it from www.h...

heatsink for via C3 733Mhz

I'm planning on building a fanless server based on via c3 733Mhz processor. I'm wondering which heatsink I should get to do this, the stock heatsink had a tiny fan on it so I'm guessing I'll need a bigger one to safely go fanless. I have stock amd 64 cooler lying around, but I really cant think of a...

Noiseless low power PSU

I'm building a server for myself which will mostly be a web server. My Objective was to keep running costs down as much as possible - as well as silencing. I went for a 1Ghz Via C3 system (so as to just put a large heatsink and forget its there). This system is small form factor (only 2 PCI slots). ...

n00b question about 12V, 7V, 5V

My query is with regards to:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article6-page1.html

The article cautions about feeding power back into the PSU. I'm not quite sure what it's cautioning against.

Would anyone care to explain?

I hate to repeat, but where can you get such a large aluminum heatsink? I'm assuming they dont make those for computers - then where could I get one?

Also, are there any stores that ship to Canada for those heat pipes and copper blocks?
