Seems like a decent product, but 700w is way too much. I also hope they have improved their quality control, as i had many problems with their old 450w model, both noise, heat, and bad insulation which resulted in a fryed motherboard and a nasty schock  They also offer 400, 520 and 1000w vers...

Your new PSU will have a SATA power cable. Every PSU in the last 2 or 3 years has one, even the really basic models. If not, a simple molex adaptor will work. You can connect it to your current system and partition off part of it for the future OS then use the rest now as storage. Once you come to i...

Re: 92mm v 120mm fan Heatsinks
If i bought an HDT-S1283 it would fit in my case, only just. Would it fit in the proper orientation (ie large side facing case exhaust)? If so, why not go for it? I have the 92mm Xigma and it can only mount the wrong way (facing PSU) on AM2 CPU's since the heatpipes block the mounting system otherw...

I use a single 4850 to play games at 1920x1200. Assassins creed, COD, UT3 all play fine at high or max settings. Why people think they need high end SLI to play at this res i dont know. Some people just look at crysis benchmarks and conclude that they need to spend $500. GTA4 and GRI(D are the only ...

They dont have to change ATX at all. If GPU makers put the componants on the other side of the board (facing up) it would make things much better. I have no idea why they dont already, especially if your cooling passively it would be better. Move the x16 slot down a bit to make sure the big coolers ...

So no scythe really doesnt "make" anything of quality. They had an opportunity to at one time, but that window has long been gone. So your definition of "good" is industry leading? Just because something might cool a CPU an extra 2c doesnt mean its suddenly bad, especially since both coolers are we...

The AMD system will likely have lower power consumption and better IGP. One thing i would seriously think about is replacing the crappy no-brand PSU. If he got it with the case years ago its a ticking time bomb by now. I would very seriously consider buying something like the Antec Earthwatts, Seaso...

i wonder if i could get better heatsinks for this... Hmm im not sure. The CPU and northbridge are cooled by the same heatsink, depending on the mounting holes and how close they are together you might find yourself unable to cool both. I suppose you could cut off the CPU part of the heatsink and re...

GPU: ATI 4870 with Scythe Musashi or GPU: ATI Radeon HD3650 x2 (passiv, fan on HD bay) Thats a very strange choice to make. The 4870 beats the crap out of 2 3650's in every aspect. Also look into the Accelero S1 cooler. You'll need to zip-tie a slow 120mm fan (really 500rpm would be enough to keep ...

I agree that the Q6600 is pretty power hungry compared to the 45nm chips, and a dual core might suit your needs better. I would also wait until you get the case and system before buying a replacement PSU. See how quiet the stock one is and how much room you have spare then decide if its worth upgrad...

I find xbit labs have very reliable and consistant VGA power consumption charts. One of the 55nm GTX260's will sip roughly 44w at idle and 105w at load. http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/video/evga-geforce-gtx260-216-55nm/results/evga260_power.png The older 65nm GTX260 will use similar amounts at idle ...

Scythe [Mugen] 2 review at xbit
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/scythe-mugen-2.html Very impressive cooling (beating TRUE at low and high fanspeed) and looks good for passive cooling with its split up fins. It also comes with a slipstream (1200rm i believe). And cheaper than most competitors. This could be my nex...

Yes 2.5" drives will probably go the way of the Dodo sooner rather than later, but they do still have a fairly big market open to them. Many people dont want a full size tower case on their desk or under their TV. Cases are getting smaller and more stylish, and in these cases a 2.5" makes perfect se...

Indeed, mostly because the low end cards get bottlenecked by their RAM size or bandwidth before their cores, while the cards that cost twice as much do not suffer f...
