Re: Revamped: The Elysium Beast V2.8, 23 HDDs and 18.0 TB
If you look at the backside of the PCB of the quaddro, you can usually tell if there's serious temp issues because the area directly behind the core will be discolored, and most of the time, very obviously so. I've seen this a couple times on low profile, fanless GPUs in the slim Dell machines. Thos...

Will the GPU clear the CPU heatsink? Sounds like something I would do... I like your clean build, must be a dream to work with. Easier than reposting the whole list. Just ordered the SSD for me, going to finally give one a shot in my desktop.

Popular gaming streamer kripparrian just bought a brand new laptop with windows 8.1. He plays a more indie game called path of exile. The game constantly locks up and freezes the computer which never happened before this. He says it is a problem with windows 8.1 and nvidia optimus drivers not worki...

What PCI card are you using? How does it work with the new Ivy Bridge CPU?
How are you liking 8.1? I had some initial problems, but everything has worked itself out, and I'm rocking a very solid machine, curious to know if you've had any problems, especially regarding your DAW usage.

Re: Windows 8.1 Discussion
Given the direction of the industry, is waiting for Windows 9 (or whatever it ends up being called) really going to give you a step backwards into the desktop environment? I consider Windows 8.1 stable on my machine. That's a narrow way of looking at it, but it is what it is, YMMV. I don't think Mic...

Most of my external drives are empty enclosures paired with drives I have lying around, and I never use the crap drive software that comes with them, so I would like to hope that I wouldn't suffer a data loss problem. That said, it's only another issue I'm seeing with Mavericks. Regarding the Window...

I'm holding off on the Mavericks update until Pro Tools is certified. I've seen too many problems with that, and I need Pro Tools to work on my laptop for school. The difference is that I don't take my desktop to school and use it for start/work on projects during breaks. Right now I'm running 10.8....

I'll be interested to see what thunderbolt devices you would end up getting and using.. There are some Thunderbolt external drives/arrays out there, but you're still going to be limited by the read/write speed of the drive, so USB3.0 would not be any slower in a real world test. I have an HD Video C...

I spent $69 on the Windows 8 Pro upgrade right when it came out. I also upgraded my girlfriends laptop for $14.99. I added the Media Center Upgrade for free during the promotional period back in January. Comparatively, I spent a lot less on my Win 8 software than others, and because of that, I'm not...

Well, I understand where you're coming from about Windows 7 being reasonably reliable, but in reality, I didn't have a problem until that 8.1 update. Okay, I have sorted out the BSOD issue after about 2 hours last night, and the results are not as bad as I originally thought. The offending software was actually Apple's Bonjour software, it's bundled with iTunes (not QuickTime) and puts a big dent in my workflow as well. Since I have a pair of Avi...

I'll give WhoCrashed a shot when I eventually get home tonight, thanks for that suggestion, I forgot about that one.
I'm having more luck getting my clients machine sorted out than I am with my own machine. Funny how that's typically the case.

I should hope no chickens were involved, that's just awkward for everyone. A little more info for everyone... The Verifier doesn't really give me any more info than I had before. Hey all, I don't see much talk about this, so I'll start off with my thoughts, and see who bites... I made the jump to Windows 8 rather early, and had a pretty pleasant experience. Re: ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo + Q9450
If resetting the CMOS doesn't work, put the old CPU back in, and double check the CPU compatibility list, and update your BIOS as necessary. It's likely that the CPU may not be supported in certain BIOS revisions, which Asus is usually very good at posting on their website, and keeping up on.

Re: Can server board fit in Antec P183 v3 case?
That board is so close to large ATX boards, I would expect that it should fit totally fine in there. At worst, it may block parts of the case where the cables can poke through. I'm using a smaller case and I squeezed in a large ATX board, so you shouldn't have any problems with what you're looking t...

Re: PicoPSU systems shuts off unexpectedly
If you pulled the GPU, could you test your PICO with a different power brick? I'm wondering if your DA-2 is bad. Voltage that high above what it should be, even going through the PICO could be a sign of a bigger problem, either related to the PICO or the DA-2. I would see if there's a way to cut off...

You have an interesting build list, it'll be pretty fast I'm sure. What brand GTX780 did you go for? MSI, Asus and Gigabyte tend to have the coolest running models I've seen. I do Blu-Ray editing with the Adobe CS6 suite and I settled for the GTX660Ti. I'm sure I'll upgrade it by next year, but it's...

Just wanted to leave a teaser about my current usage of the machine: I'm currently working on a project that's completely managed, produced and edited by me, because it started as a school project and just became a whole lot bigger than I anticipated. I spent the better half of the past two days getting an Acer 4810T back up and running. It's been sitting on the shelf for just about 2 years now, it was dropped, and didn't display correctly. Around the area I live, many people will throw out perfectly good machines when they upgrade, or if the hard drives fail. Working in a computer shop, I've seen everything from Core 2 Quads to 2-3 year old Core i3 or AMD Vision laptops tossed. Many do get "recycled" if customers don't want to pay for...

All the machines I'm quoting will be used for very basic web portal access to the company databases, DropBox and Microsoft Word and Excel. The machines do not do anything beyond that. 5 of them will be just as fine as the current set of 5-8 year old Dell machines that vary from P4 to Core 2 Duo. I o...

Re: A Windows system with idle power ~ 10 watt?
New ITX Atom D2550 will be pretty low power. Use an mSATA SSD and single RAM module, and you're done. There are thin ITX versions of this which will allow you to stick it into any regular ITX case with a good 120mm fan to keep it real cool. Since the power input is on the board directly, no need for...
