Re: Which is laptop with a VERY low noise ?
Acer Aspire AS7739Z-4804 1600x900 resolution, and you'll need to do a solid state swap to get it really quiet, but they're great laptops. I rarely see any come in for service, and almost every one that does come in for service has a broken screen. They're pretty quiet and work very well for basic us...

Re: Audio PC Build
If you're not overclocking, then there's no reason for the "k" model of any CPU. The slip stream PWM fans are nice, but not all motherboard read/report the RPM correctly. Cooler you should really put some thought into, the HR-02 macho would be a good pick, would also allow you to run low speed fans ...

Re: Toshiba Laptop - driver signature issue after new hd ins
Is it just wireless that isn't working? Are you able to connect over a wired network? I would run Windows Update over a wired network if you can, to see if it will pick up on device drivers that way, I've had that be a huge help many times with Toshiba computers. You may try doing a complete uninsta...

Re: Small, strong and silent - matx gaming build
For what you want to do, most of the parts seem justified I suppose. Only thing to keep in mind is that 750W is way more than you need. My dual Xeon system with 3x HDDs and GTX660Ti runs comfortably on an Antec 750. You most definitely do not need that. Look at power supplies in the 400-550W range, ...

If you're only streaming to one room at a time, and you're close enough, why not just bluetooth? I've installed Sonos systems before and worked on them in other homes, and they're a PITA at first, but do work pretty well once they get set up correctly. I believe you could use a small NAS to store yo...

Re: Advice on these specs (Noise wise)
I think a NAS should work fine for what you're looking to do. For example, if you have a word document open on computer 1 that is saved on the NAS (as in, you're editing directly off the NAS), once you click save and close the file, the changes are immediately available for you to open on a differen...

Re: What would be a silent PSU that has 2 x 8 pin CPU plug?
I have an Antec HCG-750 and I use a dual molex to 8 pin adapter to serve the second EPS12v connector on my Asus Z9PA-D8 motherboard and it works fine. So far, I haven't had any issues with any noise. The 3 hard drives in my system make more noise than anything else, but I would definitely have notic...

Having Dark Knight II coolers makes me really wonder why they're listed as incompatible, because that mounting kit looks damn near like what it shipped with and uses. Depending on those two little nubs on the bottom of the cross bar, i could see earlier versions of heatsinks not lining up correctly,...

If you're using the CS6 platform, don't waste your money on the Quadro 4000. I thought about going this route, but went with a GTX660Ti instead and don't regret it. I actively use most of the CS6 suite and the GTX660Ti does wonderfully in Premiere with HD playback, and the quadro cards give little b...

Re: Advice and Critique on Gaming build.
I agree with CA_Steve on all of his comments. I will say that I tend to opt for cooling that is overkill from the beginning. The HR-02 Macho would be a great way to start, mainly because it will give you massive overhead to play with fan RPMs and your noise. It would let you lower the fan speeds way...

When I was building my machine, I had put the coolers in for a dry fit test, and I used my phone for the photo. The phone was inside where the PSU currently is, because I didn't have any other components inside the case when I did this test. Since the case is white and my shop is very bright, the ph...

If the video rendering is through the Adobe Creative Suite, look at nVidia GTX600 series cards, as you will have the ability to modify a text file and get hardware acceleration for certain features. Re: Glutton for punishment - Silencing a Poweredge 2950
If it has to be quiet on the other side of the wall, put it in a closed, but vented cabinet. There are few 60mm fans that are quiet, and fewer (if any) that will keep a 2U machine cool enough to run well, especially a pair of quad core CPUs, as S771 was a bugger for heat. If the motherboard is stand...

http://www.phanteksusa.com/PH-F140TS.html That's the one I have. I use the Q2.S.A. with it, brings the speed down to ~750rpm. I also used the included soft mounts. The soft mounts were less than impressive, they didn't fit very snug, and due to the fan holes being slightly different than 120mm (I di...

Re: LGA 2011 coolers for Supermicro Xeon E5 ATX motheboards
I'm using a pair of Xigmatek SD-1283 Dark Knight II heatsinks with my E5-2620's, and it meant a clearance had to be within 159mm. That was a very tough call to make, but worked well for my build, however to put it lightly, it's very cramped. The NZXT Source 210 Elite that I'm using is 194mm wide, bu...

I think Option 2 is your best bet. I would use a better heatsink than the Hyper 212, and the Fractal cases just don't do it for me, but it's very similar to a Xeon system I almost built. The component warranties are a better bet than the generic 3 year warranty or obscene charge for support, especia...

I'd also like to add that the Gigabyte GTX660Ti OC Windforce is comparable to the MSI TwinFrozr models. Mine runs very cool with the stock cooler on it, and very quietly as well. I do not game, however it does do very well.

That's some serious power draw under a heavy load that you're looking at. Nexus Power supplies are very good units, however under the heavy load, it may warm up more than you want it to do. Look for a power supply rated by continuous output, and not peak output, as it will give you more headroom for...

edh is right about the fan addition in dB. It's not just the noise of the fan, but also the increased turbulence noise from the air that contributes to this. Sound is a funny thing to deal with, it has a lot of variables that the physics formula doesn't account for. As far as the HCG series from Ant...

If you want to take a step back to your original idea, I would say it's fine, but I would swap out the CPU for a Xeon 6 core if it's compatible with the motherboard. Getting a case without side vents is near impossible these days, but you don't have to have a fan there, and you can cover it up to pr...

You're looking at a building a brand new machine for what looks to be big jobs. Here's the skinny on my build...the initial order of parts in order to get my machine built and set up was $1926 and change USD. You could cut the RAM down, use a single socket, and that would cut out about $500 less. I ...

If you already have Windows 8 installed, you can delete the partition through the diskmgmt.msc tool. If you're looking for a serious Audio/Video rig, forget about Core i7 CPUs and look at Xeons. They will cost about the same, but have a bit more oomph to them for what you're looking to do. A smaller case with less internal volume will cycle the air quicker than a larger case. Whether this will directly translate into lower temps is a different question. The temps may be within 1* C between mATX and full ATX, there are a lot of other variables to take into account (fans, hot components...

My current GPU is the Gigabyte 660ti OC, and to be perfectly honest, it's a GPU that's faster than the first PC I ever had (P3 Celeron).
