Many more cool 3.5" ones out there than 5.25".
I wonder if maybe my fan blade stopper shorted something, as now it seems fine. If this keeps up through ripping another 50-80 CDs, I may get this one. Same internals as the cheap one I'm using now, but it works great w/ Nero's ASPI layer.

5.25" external enclosure
I'm currently using a ME-320U2 , which is several times louder than the rest of my system, and all it has is a 40mm fan. If I stop the fan, the rear end (PSU) does get warm, and starts making "bleep" sounds. So that's no good :). On top of that, the design and build quality are pretty bad. I'm think...

The case temp often does rise using these coolers. This does not mean it is really getting hotter, just that the air near the sensor happens to be hotter due to this monster of a heatsink altering the airflow and not constantly moving a lot of cool/warm air around. A dragon, even a mini-mid one, sho...

9800 Pro or 5900XT minimum! I went from a Ti 4200 to a 9600XT. It's nowhere near worth the upgrade. The 5900XT (NV) and 9800 Pro (ATI) offer good performance for the money, and both blow away any 9600. The 9800 is better for newer DirectX games, and the 5900 is better for OpenGL and DX 8/8.1 games. ...

Last little bit, if you do use one of the Zalman coolers...take your time, be as exact as possible, and don't worry about the little brace things. I recently re-re-installed mine, this time doing several dry fittings, overall, taking nearly an hour, and the load temps are now down 10-15C from before...

Not Gainward's, but I'm quite happy w/ the Leadtek. I have a ZM80C-HP on it, RAMsinks (OCZ aluminum ones--cheapest the Egg had), and a fan. Since it is finally there, get a D :). It gets way too hot w/o a fan, but even a weak fan should do the job. It's more important to get air moving than it is to...

If Gainward, who's already looking to use the ZM80D were smart, they'd do that. I doubt NVidia could care less on the reference cooling as long as it isn't like the leaf-blowing FlowFX.Sledge wrote:If Nvidia was smart, they'd package that with two of Arctic Cooling's upcoming VGA Silencer 4 for Nvidia products.

The one on my 5900 XT (same HS/F) was a bit whiny, but not bad at all (I am quite ticky about high pitched noise, even if faint). Just the whine that most any fan has; nothing terrible, and about as loud as a 80mm L1A @ 12v. Definitely silent by a typical user's ear, and not bad by mine--I just want...

$7 more and includes RAMsinks. That's a bargain. As far as cooling, we'll just have to see. Esepcially with slow passive and near passive cooling, they basically have to find a balance on mass, material and surface area. It could very well do a better job--I imagine it will. In my case, there is ple...

I later found that the 5900XT can pull up to like 90w. That settled me down on the temps a bit :). Now I've had Rivatuner monitoring during all uses, and the max is 97C, typically it will hit 92C, and idles between 41 and 44C, depending on time of day. I have an Enermax adujstable rigged from behind...

Yup, acetone. Always. Just do like Ralf says and be fairly careful with it. Think "Q-tip", not "mop" Yup. Acetone with a lens cloth or hard paper tower should do it just fine (hard paper towels generally don't leave too many bits behind, nor tear of sticky heatsink goop). However, some compou...

What little I OC'd my 9600, even 1MHz too far and the RAM gave away artifacts big time. checker patterns, white dots all over, etc. When the GPU was clocked too high, polygons generally got out of place, and textures would sometimes become their negative images. It never did overheat, but usually ov...

The first review of a German hardware site (twinsbyte.de) is very positive. The cooler is mounted on a Geforce FX 5900 LX BIOS modded to 5950 Ultra speeds. The GPU temp during Windows with the stock cooler was 44C and with the VM-101 it was 42C (they said they had a "good case ventilation"). When t...

5900XT temps w/ ZM80C-HP
For those with a FX 59xx and the ZM80C who can check their temps, what does it typically run idle and on load? I just installed the Zalman on mine and it runs about 50C idle (36C case--summer is not being kind) and 80-100C load (highest I recorded, thanks to Rivatuner, was 105C. Never went above 96C...
