To my knowledge, the SATA and PATA is mechanically similar. The SATA version uses a bridge chip to translate from PATA to SATA. So the only thing you should look for is the NIDEC motor.

The 40mm are nutoriuos whiners. I shifted the one on my IC7 with a low noise Papst. Have tried both the 20mm and 10mm deep ones. Only when I ran it at 40% was it ok. Just an update. The Smartcooler 60x60x25 moves 42 cfm (25 m3/hour *1,699) at 2200 RPM and 18 dbA, as far as I can see. The 25 m3/hour is stated in the specs.
