Heck, has anyone else tried to shop for C2D motherboards on Newegg? The list of options are: * Intel Core 2 Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D * Intel Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium D/Celeron * Intel Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium EE/Pentium How about a list of MBs that were designed for C2D an...

Hey Bluefront, pretty nifty design. Two questions: 1) You found that this design was much quieter than a front bezel mounted fan.. do you attribute this to the fact that the fan is isolated more from the case, or just the fact that it is pointing downward? Also, wasn't your slot mounted fan pulling ...

Hey Felger... No way you could make microphone measurements of that thing when it comes, is there? I'm guessing it doesn't sound much like a 120 mm fan. As far as Isaac and Jaganath's concerns, here's my idea: As long as the fan sounds the same when you install it in your case as when it's just oper...

I've been thinking of building a very similar system as the OP (although with a 6150 board), and it seems like this issue is HD, H264, etc. Since I am mostly interested in SD TV, with a little OTA HD, the additional power of a discrete graphics card shouldn't be that necessary. It would be helpful f...

I agree with Bluefront, it probably won't work. I can't really tell from the picture... Is the fan an axial blower like this or is it a centrifugal blower like this ? I suspect it's the centrifugal blower like the second one, and even if you got it spinning in the other direction, it'd still move ai...

I know little enough about linux, but everyone says support for nvidia boards is way better than for ATI boards. Have you been to newegg.com? The flow rate isn't the correct factor, though. Sorry, I wasn't very precise. The correcr factor is non-dimensional flow rate, that is, flow speed divided by rotor tip speed. The fan should stall at the same non-dimensional flow rate, regardless of rotation speed. I think you're point is right, tho...

Hey Isaac, Probably what's happening is that when you severely obstruct the airflow, the fan stalls. The fan is happy operating over a limited range of flow rates, but at very low flow rates the flow over the airfoil separates, and the fan looses lift. It makes more noise when it stalls because the ...
