I'll have to plug in an external speaker, but I'm not sure it's even powered on long enough to beep! Sounds like a duff MB  That sounds exactly like what I'm doing, but I must be missing a detail somewhere. Are you resetting file protections periodically? Maybe I just need to restart samba s...

There is no user 'David' on the server, only 'fah'. I added root to 'fah's groups. Damn, I don't understand samba either  . My smb.conf dates back to redhat 7.0 and I have not alter it much since then. I have always connect to samba using a user that exist on the server and did not use smbuse...

I'm being dense, but how do I "assign the user that connects to samba with the group root"? I tried adding user root in the samba configuration but it says that user already exists. I'm confused about what a "samba user" is. Nothing to do with samba user. At menu bar, go to System Setting->User and...

What do I have to do to give Samba rw access to files owned by root? This seems like a "bad idea" but if the ws<nnn> hosts run as root, is there another alternative besides manually setting protections on the files every 5 minutes? There is no elegant way around this problem. The most simplest is t...

Samba also remains a mystery. I am back to not being able to monitor my Linux machines from Windows, and I don't understand why. So, it would appear that, despite getting this to work, I don't know everything yet. The is a 'host allow' line in smb.conf which defaults to 192.168.0 change that ...

Do you use the silent fan capabilities? Yes, always in silent mode :D . BIOS has 3 level of control over the fans - Auto, Silent and Enhance. I am not too sure what auto is as it behaves like in Silent mode. In silent mode the CPU fan stays off or at minimum level (~7V) until CPU temp rises above 5...

Puzzling, you said the client is executed as it goes through the setup. The client.cfg has the rwx bit enabled so should be readable. You cannot cat client.cfg which suggest you do not have read status. I am assuming you are at the console of the blade, try to make a directory and/or create a file. ...

No one have one of the Fujitsu-Siemens Boards? I have been looking at their webpage and it looks very interesting, especially the D1688. However I have not been able to find any review of this or similar boards. I would be really nice to know if the fan control actually works. I have a fujitsu-siem...

/etc/hosts.allow had the wrong IP address: in.tftpd: 192.168.0. Should be 192.168.1. in my case. It's ironic that I was originally using the .0. subnet but then changed my existing LAN to .1. so I could put the farm on .0., but then ended up just doing a single network. This might be something else...

Do you know offhand Charlie, whether the information that is displayed on the screen of the network boot clients during boot is logged, or CAN be logged, on the server? 457 points = 1408 WU !!!!!!
I was just having a look at the points some of these MAC guys are producing and one guy's score really puzzles me - NoahJ . On 12/17/2003 this guy summited 1408 WU for a total of 457 points, that averages 0.33 points per WU - weird. Today (12/19/2003) at 09:00PM he summited 34 WU for 41  . Wh...

Charlie, have you actually done this yourself or are you essentially quoting the web pages that Turmelle and others have posted? search ks.ok.cox.net* Were did this come from? Straight out of the original resolv.conf. I didn't put it there, so it must be something Linux got from my router, which got it from my ISP. Since the server itself, as well as at least one of the Windows XP machines, are fully functional, I don't think it's a resolv issue. In fact, I don't think it's a dnsmasq issue, or a DHCP issue, at least not on the server. Was the IP for the XP machine assign using MAC or dynamic IP? There is one ...

David, I guest the two machines that was able to connect to the internet has their IPs in the /etc/hosts file. PSC appears to have a dynamic IP assigned to it. On the farm server the /etc/resolv.conf needs the following, search [network name] nameserver 192.168.0.200 nameserver 192.168.0.1 I believe this can also be specified in the dhcpd.conf file, in option domain-name-servers, but perhaps other apps need the /etc/resolv.conf file. When a farm client or...
