With the Gigabyte board installed the E5200 booted to the BIOS at the 9X multiplier. I was able to get 6x333MHz = 2GHz to boot, but the memory was running DDR2 888 at this FSB setting with no option to reduce the divider to 1:1 ratio. So the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't seem to have a FSB wall, but...

Hi, yeah the case fan and PSU fan will pull plenty of air through a decent heatsink in a Solo. Especially if you're only listening to music at 1-2% cpu usage. My cpu cores run at 30°C when listening to music and surfing the web. That's with an Intel E2140 overclocked to 2.8GHz and the cooler is a T...

the base is copper but nickel plated. But then again, why? It looks ugly, copper would make it look richer :) I prefer the nickel plated look aesthetically, but also remember that over time copper tarnishes when exposed to the air. If you have ever lifted floorboards and seen old unpainted copper p...

Q1 It's certainly do-able with a Ninja Mini in a Solo, I have seen many such systems. Your margin will depend on usage patterns and ambient temperature, but playing music is not stressful on the cpu so you should be fine. (Fwiw I run a passive cpu cooler in a Solo, but it is considerably larger than...

Resistors are a bit unpredictable because the size of resistor needed depends on the resistance of the fan. As I have found out there is not a "one-size-fits-all" resistor to give 7V. See this thread for more discussion of this issue and related links: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic....

I've been using one for a few weeks now, initial impressions seem good, it's well built and quiet. My max load is under 200W and I never notice the fan speed up, although there is no rpm monitoring so I can't say exactly how fast it is spinning. If you want more info, here is a link to a German revi...

Also in the SPCR review it's worth remembering that the difference in power consumption between the 4670 and the integrated graphics was actually 6W at system idle, the 4W figure was when CPUBurn was running. http://www.silentpcreview.com/article873-page4.html Compare the first line of the first two...

maf718: You have perfect card for installing HR-03! :) Only Palit and Gainward use this PCB layout. Yes, I like Thermalright coolers, the quality (and the price) is always top notch. Matija, would your fan connector problem be any better if you removed the plastic shroud around the pins? That is reversible if warranty is ever needed. Knowing my luck, I'd chip the PCB or something. But I still don't think it would fit - the pins are only a little bit below the top of the shroud,...

I used the profiles method above to lower my memory clock from 1000 to 500 at idle. Power consumption drops by 2 watts at the wall (with an 80+ power supply). Why don't you just flash a modified firmware? I have 165/250, but even with this reduction I feel that the RAM is heating up a little. The c...

I guess it must be costing them (a lot) more than they thought. It has only been running for 4 years and 4 months, so they don't even have a full five years' worth of data yet. Most people who buy bare drives are likely to replace them after 4 years or so anyway, they are usually becoming obsolete b...

I recently purchased my first Thermalright cooler (IFX-14) and along with the performance, the build quality and finish are superb, second to none. If you value these qualities, (and it sounds like you do), I would seriously consider limiting the choice to Thermalright products. As to which ones, th...

Now maybe Sapphire/Gigabyte users can equal HIS idle Power consumption? Or maybe beat, if HIS can't physicaly do 0.9V and other cards can? I'm still waiting for evidence that any retail card can physically do 0.9V. By looking at the BIOS settings I thought my Palit could, but measuring it proved ot...

Another thumbs up, great build. :) Re your fan rpm monitoring - the three pin headers on your fans will fit just fine on the four pin PWM headers on the mobo, they are even keyed so you can't put them on the wrong pins. You might not get speed control for non-PWM on some or even all headers though, ...

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments and will answer your questions. The mid/front fan is already running at 5volts and I don't have any way of slowing it to a lower speed than its current 740rpm. A Slipstream is pretty quiet at this speed and the filter material in the Kama Bay also helps to prev...

What resolution do you need to game in? If it's 1280x1024 or similar then the HD4670 is ideal, if its more then you need proportionally more horsepower. Another vote for 4gb of memory, it's so cheap now it doesn't even matter if you are using a 32bit OS that doesn't see it all. Your component choice...

Ksanderash: The chip in question is marked: CH=AG XOM I may play around with the memory clocks in RBE and flash the card, but if all I will save is 1 or 2 watts it does not seem worth the trouble. Matija: My Palit card also has the fan tab greyed out in RBE, even though fan control works in CCC etc.

Hi, in a postscript to the Modu82 review Mike Chin stated that the fan/fan header was not compatible with regular fans, either 4-pin pwm or regular 3-pin, and could not be replaced with a regular fan. I guess that's why it wouldn't work. Does your PSU work apart from the fan? If everything else is o...
