With the Gigabyte board installed the E5200 booted to the BIOS at the 9X multiplier. I was able to get 6x333MHz = 2GHz to boot, but the memory was running DDR2 888 at this FSB setting with no option to reduce the divider to 1:1 ratio. So the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't seem to have a FSB wall, but...

Hi, yeah the case fan and PSU fan will pull plenty of air through a decent heatsink in a Solo. Especially if you're only listening to music at 1-2% cpu usage. My cpu cores run at 30°C when listening to music and surfing the web. That's with an Intel E2140 overclocked to 2.8GHz and the cooler is a T...

the base is copper but nickel plated. But then again, why? It looks ugly, copper would make it look richer :) I prefer the nickel plated look aesthetically, but also remember that over time copper tarnishes when exposed to the air. If you have ever lifted floorboards and seen old unpainted copper p...

Q1 It's certainly do-able with a Ninja Mini in a Solo, I have seen many such systems. Your margin will depend on usage patterns and ambient temperature, but playing music is not stressful on the cpu so you should be fine. (Fwiw I run a passive cpu cooler in a Solo, but it is considerably larger than...

Resistors are a bit unpredictable because the size of resistor needed depends on the resistance of the fan. As I have found out there is not a "one-size-fits-all" resistor to give 7V. Card is set to 165/500 @ 0.9 V at idle. This is the same as default idle apart from memory (default = 1000). I have tried 250 mem speed via an edited profile but the card will not budge from 500, that seems to be its limit.

You could be right about the controller. I have heard of a similar problem and in that case they solved it by going into the Bios and changing the fan control method from PWM to voltage.

Matija, would your fan connector problem be any better if you removed the plastic shroud around the pins? That is reversible if warranty is ever needed. Knowing my luck, I'd chip the PCB or something. But I still don't think it would fit - the pins are only a little bit below the top of the shroud,...

I guess it must be costing them (a lot) more than they thought. It has only been running for 4 years and 4 months, so they don't even have a full five years' worth of data yet. Most people who buy bare drives are likely to replace them after 4 years or so anyway, they are usually becoming obsolete b...

What resolution do you need to game in? If it's 1280x1024 or similar then the HD4670 is ideal, if its more then you need proportionally more horsepower. Another vote for 4gb of memory, it's so cheap now it doesn't even matter if you are using a 32bit OS that doesn't see it all. Your component choice...
