For those of you who are bold enough to mod the heatsink itself. If you file or cut down the heatsink at an angle, you can pretty much eliminate the deadspot. Even if you just put washers on one side of the heatsink you can probably get the same effect - crossblow. You don't need much I'm sure, not ...

The newest Dell catalog is showing off the insides of one of their cases. The PSU is located at the bottom in a separated compartment. Chili, a case manufacturer, also had this design for a little bit of time with the MB on the reverse side of the case and the PSU at the bottom. Though I thinkthey'r...

I'll give props to the Gyration set though. I took a chance and played with a display model at a local store (of course half the keys were missing), but the one I got is working very well. There was a few hours where the 'd' key got stuck in the lower posistion for awhile a few days ago. It could've...

yup, mental block there :) I've read the same thread about the issue with panaflo thickness and stock isolators. I can't really comment on isolators in the link b/c I haven't had experience with 120s ... I used twist ties (the flexible metal ties wrapped in paper that come on loafs of bread) to moun...

From what I remember of high school, I would tend to agree that the excess energy that isn't being converted to rotational power would have to be given off as heat. Also, I don't believe any computer fans are designed with heat dissipation in mind since it would cost alot to plan/manufacturer and th...

I don't believe there's much chance of it fitting in that space. I know normal coolers that are smaller and they don't fit into the older VAIO case designs which are sideways PSUs as well. On top of that, the small space will require that air will be "split" between the force of the fan in the PSU g...

Welcome to the forums! Some say that thinner material used in aluminum cases allows for more vibration to escape the case through resounance (sp?). One less thing you have to worry about though, will be the fan grills, as I believe they are non-existant (at least on the front end of the case), so th...

Intel's reference board that usees the 875P has a passive heatsink on it, large, but I think its comparable to the NB32J. Photo: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bz/index.htm?iid=ipp_browse+motherbd_d875pbz& The NB32J also has metal "extensions" that are variable for it to be used with push pin ...

I would think that going with the 120 Fortron would be beneficial if you're looking for it to be the single exhast fan in the system. It seems to push a fair amount of air (and over a larger area) than most PSUs that are quiet. I know that recommendations are that the silent PSUs from Nexus/Zalman a...

yup, sheer weight alone can make a significant difference in cooling potential. However, one can also take into account the design of the heatsink. For instance, the 500g+ weight of the Zalman Video Heatsink vs a standard Video Card HS and fan combination in many cases allows for lower operating tem...

Wow, that looks promising. I would hope some of those technologies will make it into the aftermarket eventually. The first thing I'd want would be the fanless PSU... I guess the multiple heatpipe CPU cooler would work since the heat is transferred to different parts of the case for the most part. PS...

I have a clicking M1a (annoying as ever, took it out) - it could be a bad fan. Or, possibly both click just the one inside the case is inaudible? I don't know if it will affect it very much since you have the proper C/W for your HSF, but perhaps your motherboard bios needs an update? Sometimes the temp diodes on the board need to be calibrated because they yeild too high/low a temperature reading. Good Luck, that would be a question I'd want ...

That GMC case with the slim mirror front and the temp gauge seems awfully nice. 1) simple exterior, with a door if possible 2) spacious interior, drive cages bolted so they don't rattle 3) aluminum instead of steel, cause its easier to mod Once again, that GMC case is nice, but I'm sure its somewhat...
