Just a quick question. What's the need to be able to cold-cold-start the HTPC? I agree that any cpu that can run at 1.175 should be able to cold-cold-boot at the same voltage. BTW - That's a nice looking amp you have in your pic gallery? I keep forgetting really how big those transformers get in the...

Re: "scheduled task" didn't work for me

Hello: I'm using Win2K SP2 and I tried the "scheduled task" method in several ways (start upon sign in, and start when idle) and neither worked at all. Nothing started at all -- I had set the "advanced" settings to start after just 1 minute of being idle, and I waited 2-3 minutes and -- nothing hap...

powergyoza, I tried running it via the scheduled task, but then it comes up just like it was running normally. Rusty075, most of the time the console windows do not appear on the desktop nor is there an icon for it on the taskbar. For the times that the window does show up, I use HideIt to make it ...

You don't need FireDaemon to run folding hidden. You can simply run the console as a scheduled task in the control panel. Just add a scheduled task with all the desired switches and you're done. I have 2 clients running @ once so I use -local -advmethods -forceasm.

welcome newbiecanadian, it depends on which hdd you have. If it's a recent maxtor, ibm or seagate you can read directly from the on-board thermal diode using a utility like DTemp, MotherBoardMonitor (aka MBM). Search the forums/www for links to these 2 util's. If it's a WD you'll need to attach your...

Almost all fan filters will decrease the cfm output of your fans. Some will also not even filter the dust very well or clog up way too quickly. The only useful type of filter that I've seen are the ones with lots-o-lots of surface area. Like the ones meant for lawnmowers or car engines. Bluefront an...

I did an experiment to answer a similar questin in this old thread: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=2990 In short: faster fans usually make more noise at lower speeds than a slower fan at stock speed. The only exception is probably that fan MikeC talks about in the Zalman & Nexus PS...

The VRM's are off to the side of each CPU. One is near the AGP port, the other is near the 20-pin ATX power connector. I can't tell how similar or different your setup is to mine. I can only think of your cable routing inside. It makes a difference how out-of-the-way the cables are. Oh yah, the diff...

The -advmethods switch I believe will use the gromacs core which favours the smaller faster units. I know this cuz I run w/ that switch and you can see how many units I go through compared to my score.

A 20C difference seems about right, expecially if it's a higher wattage CPU. If you look here at MikeC's review of the SLK900 you'll see a similar temp. rise (depending on the speed of your fan). Yeah, I believe that's a problem for most current case/hs/mobo configs these days. That's why I think ducting helps.

Btw, to have the fans go at minimum speed I modified my other case toy, the Innovatec fan controller, to work together with the DD5. Now I can control all the fans myself but the DD5 steps in and feeds a full 12V if ever anything gets too hot. Foolproof and quiet, but not exactly cheap. I'm interes...
