Also the current colorscheme is counter intuitive with green being the bad one. I suggest use the colors in the same way as in traffic lights: green is go (quiet), yellow is almost quiet and red is no go (not quiet).

All I'm saying is that if 400W fanless has same guts as 650W fanned then maybe 460W fanless would have equal guts to 750W fanned unit. It would be totally weird to sell the same psu with different ratings as some of the previous posts seem to claim. I'd definitely get a fanless seasonic if I were in...

Obviously the higher rated model must have better components to have that rating. The previous poster must be wrong.

But the TDPs are usually the same for the whole line of CPUs, with several differing clock speed models having the same TDP. Doesn't this make the numbers pretty much useless?

Because it is a logarithmic scale, doubling of sound power actually adds a constant to the original dB level. See http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-levelchange.htm . However it can even be the case that adding two sound sources gives lower noise than either one by itself, as happens with noise...

Look, it's all really simple: rated max power for the brick must be larger than power drawn from it and same goes for the Pico part. However those calculators just don't give the correct numbers. Do this: build your system using an old temporary psu that you maybe have lying around or borrow or what...

Intel just cut the price of i950 to same as i930 so there is no point to buy the latter anymore. I hope you haven't yet purchased the CPU.

I agree on w7, because you wont be happy with just 3GB for another 10 years.

Your maximum savings would be a whooping 4W. Don't you think much larger savings could be obtained by optimizing some other appliances than your PC?

F.ex. an inductive stove can be over twice as efficient than a regular one.

Actually it is usually a bit above 3GB so you should still install a full 4 GB. Get a kit of 2x2GB modules.

I won't search the mobo specs but its DDR3 in any case and no need for anything fancy as long as it is backed by lifetime warranty. Compare price versus speed and choose your sweetspot.

I understand that the idea is to build this to a specific style but did you consider a door? The seasonic is 80.4% efficient at 42.6w DC load and already 84.5% efficient at 65.9w DC load. What numbers do you expect from your other choice?

And how many Watts would the difference save you? Must be less than 5w in any case.

You really should start with actually measuring that, and while you are at it, other stuff too.

Only then you can make an educated decision about what is it that you really should replace, if anything.

How about SSD instead of hard drive? I bet that hard drive becomes a bottleneck before 2015. Since there is a target for lifetime, maybe all the parts should have 5 year warranty, or at least 3. I know that some PSUs have 5 or even 7 years, but don't know what's the situation with pico/brick.

If you would keep the old cables, then resistance stays the same. Now if you go down to 12V from 120V, this happens: - To be able to deliver equal power, you need 10x the current when using 1/10th of the voltage. - The power loss is current to the second power times the resistance. This gives 100x t...
