"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one" Based on the premise that all individuals are equal, but what's that based on? The needs of Obama outweigh the needs of the peasants. The needs of Wall Street outweigh the needs of main street. - Two truths: Power isn't evenly distrib...

Re: Modern Phrases That Confuse Me
2. More complete! - Ah yes, of course. I used to think of "complete" like being pregnant. You either are or you are not. There is no "little bit pregnant." I could continue, but some might think my long windedness might be more complete, and we can't have that. More perfect. A woman is either perfe...

New Comps and 12GB of RAM?
Browsing newegg today looking at all the gadgets I shouldn't buy, I was surprised to see people speaking of their "12GB of RAM" systems. And the latest performance mobos accept up to 24GB.
Isn't this overkill? I'm sure there are uses for it, but the hype seems like such a waste for most users...

Not good to speak of killing glorious leader. But even were he to cease existing in this life, another monster would surely take his place. Actually, one is rising now to replace him: Obaminator! He's sure to stomp on the Mid East ant hill and US economy plenty... just as Dubya did. Oh, but he's bla...

I found a new positive of LED bulbs: no mercury gas inside. CFL bulbs though do have mercury gas, which isn't supposedly hazardous except where large numbers of bulbs have broken. --- Bringing me to my question: do people dispose of these dern things? I have a few CFL bulbs now, but I hate to just t...

~$500 billion seems to me a huge underestimate. I haven't looked at the proposals because I hadn't thought any of them realistic. Green power costs far more than ah brown power. It would require the transformation of a society, shifting a great deal more towards producing and maintaining that green ...

Neil, I know you're a big believer in the global village dream, but were you to type into the screen "I understand your view, though you're mistaken about the role genetics, culture, community-ties, morality, diversity, etc. play in a society. Hello Trip, How would deporting people help? They are going to "need" as much power in some other place. If we can do this, we will go a very long way to solving the economic problems, AND the war problems, AND the environmental problems -- with a single solution, we can alleviate (at least) three ...

We could go green if we deported 2/3 of the population... It's not reasonable to go Green in the US within 10 years, we're too large, diverse, and poor. Norway or Iceland might could do it, or maybe Japan (I dunno much about Japan but wanted a nonEuro state) but not the US, at least not easily. --- ...
