You can use a ATI HD 5450 passive, you will save 5W. You can also choose the ECS motherboard and you will save another 8W. (but you won't have USB3) Interesting! Do you have a link to a review or equal, thanks! :) I'm very interested if this is true. It is, HD5450 is the most power efficient dedica...

Certainly an interesting build! :) Have you considered using less fans?? My rig runs just fine with one 650 RPM Nexus fan, I guess you could certainly get by with less than the five you've got now. Yeah, two case fans would probably be enough but we where unsure about how much heat the 7200 HDD cau...

A very creative idea, I must say. But what happens if someone would open the drawer with too much force? Did you secure the drives and the upright fan well enough? The standing fan is secured extremely tight with four zip ties, the only way to move it is to remove the drawer and cut them from under...

What worries me is the foam, is it non flammable ?
Yep, non flammable, but none of the components are really in direkt contact with the foam except for the drives.

The finished build: http://pici.se/pictures/rnPGpIpbg.jpg Leftover cables are tucked in the spot behind the PSU and under the foam. The HDDs lay directly on foam which works surprisingly well despite the fact that the foam isn't that thick. Both drives are held together by two tiny screws cut at bot...

The idea was to build it in the drawer but we soon realized that cooling would be an issue if we didn't provide the PC with some airflow and ventilation. Since the bottom is quite thick and so is the back, a few well placed holes would not cause to much noise. http://pici.se/pictures/EcLcdfOMk.jpg T...

Bozar & Thrash's Hidden HTPC

We've recently made some mods with big quality cases from Chieftec, Antec but now Thrash wanted a HTPC invisible for the eye so we decided to build it into some furniture. The HTPC consists of: Athlon II X2 250 (too powerful for HTPC but enough for lots of browsing and a few multitasking programs. T...

Problem with Scythe Big Shuriken acoustics

My friend and I just built a HTPC based on an athlon II X2 cooled by the supposedly quiet Scythe Big Shuriken. The problem is that it's very audible on 12V which is easily fixed by letting the motherboard control the voltage but even at 6V it's audible despite the review SPCR did on it although much...

Good review but I don't see the point. I saw the point with a 980X stock cooler which is a cooler comparable to other high-end solutions.
Everyone knows that stock coolers from low-end Intels cpu's and AMDs suck big time.

Re: PicoPsu + 4 HDs

Hi! I'm considering buying a picopsu 150-xt to power up my nas/htpc (atom+4 green caviars). Do you think this little psu will drive enough power to boot it up? thanks! I think it will possibly work it depends on what atom board exactly you want to use there are lots of Atom CPUs and motherboards wi...

Maybe a suitable substitute for my Zalman 7000-Cu when I upgrade my reserve rig.

1st question: In this case there is 2 exaust fans and one intake. There is an intake grill right uner the HDD cage so fresh air is coming from there. 2nd question: This case is pretty quiet I was having a Antec P150 before this one and this is the same level of noise. The metal in the case does not...

Good to see that Nexus still keeps up with the other contenders.

The testing rig seems pretty advanced but hopefully it will produce more reproducible results.

Is lower temp-fans more suitable for heat-sink-cooling and high FPM more suitable for intake/exhaust?

If you are really sensitive with acoustics, go with P183, you can cover up upper vent more easily and it's spacier.

Considering a fan-swap for my Corsair HX520

Been trying to quieting down my already semi-quiet rig and with undervolted Nexus fans suspended HDDs and a undervolted Slipstream@Scythe Ninja 2 I guess it comes down to the PSU after covering the upper fan position in my P182. The fans I've been considering are S-Flex SFF21F for low starting volta...

An easy way to make sure you have the right tension is to strap the elastic to a HDD-screw with a cable tie and then do the same to the case, you can use no tension at all and still have a perfectly secure mounting. Did this myself with a couple of hairbands and a Seagate LP :D.

If they updated the NSK3480 with cable management, hole for CPU in tray and no included PSU, I would be the first one to buy it. That would be an awesome case.
